Color Challenge - Wednesday Yellow - Flower of Azores - Ginger Lily
This beautiful exotic plant we found all across the island of Azores during our holiday. Although it thrives well in the Azorean climate, it is posing a severe threat to the native vegetation.
Ginger Lily ( Hedychium gardnerianum) originally from Himalaya, spreads aggressively by massive rhizomatous growth, expelling any other plants at attitudes 150-600m. The big yellow-orange flowers that bloom at the end of July in long spikes makes it very attractive that lets you forget the ecological impact on local vegetation. Pulling out one of the flowers and sucking out the stalk, you will taste delicious honey-sweet ginger.
Really beautiful.
