Have you ever looked closely at a dandelion? They're really beautiful!
Members of the aster family, dandelions (Taraxacum officinale), are short-lived, tap-rooted perennials generally considered weeds in North America. They are native to Eurasia but are well-established and common throughout the lower 48 states. Much maligned, dandelions also have their champions who point out that the plants are entirely edible, highly nutritious, and have medicinal properties. In fact, dandelions are cultivated for these characteristics in some areas. And then, there's dandelion wine....

Dandelion greens are very tasty and nutritious. I've actually read that the root dried and ground up makes a good coffee alternative. Never tried the root personally, though... Beautiful pictures.
