Gregory Sang Pencerah, the figure that made Armenia turn into the first Christian (kingdom) Christian state in the world since 301 AD. In a historical record written in The Kingdom of Armenia: A History (1987: 219-221), M. Chahin tells how Armenia was 12 years earlier before the Roman Empire tolerated Christianity in its territory. This condition is 30-40 years earlier before Rome became the largest and most influential Christian Kingdom in the world.

Born to a noble rich family, Gregory Sang Pencerah studied and became a Christian in Cappadocia (Turkish region). It was there that Gregory became acquainted with the books of God and turned into a devout Christian with an extraordinarily strong faith.

Gregory was born in Armenia in 257 AD. He had to be evacuated to Cappadocia, after his father, who was a secret agent of the Parthian Dynasty (the previous King's Dynasty), was executed for killing Khosov II, Armenian King of the Arsacid Dynasty.
