The backbone of life

in #cn2 days ago

The renowned American psychologist Martin Gardner was originally a doctor. He strongly opposed revealing the truth to cancer patients. He believed that among those who died of cancer in the United States, 80% were scared to death, with the remaining being truly ill to death.

He once conducted an experiment: a condemned prisoner was made to lie on a bed and was told he would be executed. Then a piece of wood was used to make a mark on his wrist, followed by opening a pre-prepared faucet to allow water to drip into a container under the bed. With the rhythm of the dripping water gradually slowing down, the prisoner eventually fainted. When he published the results of the experiment in 1988, he was prosecuted by the judicial authorities. However, he used facts to tell the world that the spirit is the true backbone of life; once a person is mentally defeated, life becomes distorted.

Now, Gardner serves as a mental coach for the 3V Club, which crosses the Atlantic Ocean. Under his guidance, a man named Boris became famous. This man paddled a canoe from Brest, France, across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, taking six and a half months to reach Brisbane, Australia, setting a Guinness record for solo canoe crossing of the Atlantic Ocean.

Some suspect whether Gardner is conducting experiments on athletes again. Gardner refutes this by saying: I have never conducted any experiments; I am merely demonstrating the power of the spirit.

In this world, the dire situations people find themselves in are often not about survival but rather a spiritual deadlock; as long as you do not give in mentally, nothing from the outside can defeat you.
