Eating scorpion for health is the new motto in China. Some people even see in this vein, a considerable source of income.

A thriving scorpion farm

Cheng Junliang, a 44-year-old Chinese entrepreneur, is considered the "King of the Scorpions." Indeed, on his farm, he does not raise traditional cattle, but indeed hundreds of thousands of scorpions. The market seems to be flourishing, because with his family, he has launched this business for 25 years. Today, his company located in Xiang de She, in Hebei province, sells 30 tons of scorpions a year. This brings him 30 million yuan (3.8 million euros).

A new source of protein

This success is due to the fact that the Chinese are fond of these insects. On the other hand, producers find it more profitable to produce scorpions than to raise traditional livestock. "The market is ready, there is a shortage of protein in the country, importing fish from Chile or Peru, and for humans knowledge lacks the potential of insects as a source of nutrition" , Li Jinsui, owner of the Chinese company Yunnan Insect, told Daily.

According to specialists of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the development of the production of these insects represents an alternative to the production of meat and fish, very polluting.
