Hello everyone, today I am going to share with you my journey to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosina was once the member of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. In the 90's Bosina declared its independence and the Bosnian War broke out. The country suffered al lot from the war and hence development was hindered. I was really impressed and would wish to witness the post-war situation of the country. That's why I decide to pay a visit there.
Sebilj in Sarajevo is the Ottoman-style wooden fountain, located in the Baščaršija Square, which is one of the famous attraction in Sarajevo
In the early winter last year, I took an overnight bus from Croatia to Bosina. When the bus arrive the boarder, everyone was having the usual immigration checking except me. An officer asked me a lot about my journey to Bosina before he stamped on my passport. May be Asian seldom visited the country and I have alerted their concern. Finally I arrived to Sarajevo after ten hours of bus trip. It was too early that the public transportation hasn't start working and thus I had to walked in the street in Sarajevo at 5:00am.

I was walking alone in darkness in Sarajevo
Finally I got to the hostel and relieved myself for a while. Though I didn't sleep well for the whole night, I was too excited to visit the city and thus I rushed out for the sunrise moment. As the time was still early in the morning, there was not much people in the street and I could hanged around without any crowd.
Baščaršija Square in the morning. Pigeons were waiting feeding from the tourists
Streets around the Square, shops were selling the local souvenirs
Walking along the main street from the Square, I found the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque. It was such a beautiful and peaceful Mosque though it was kinda old. Getting inside the Mosque with my bare feet, I could see many Muslim were praying and having mediation. Sorry that I could not provide the picture as photography was forbidden inside the Mosque.
I like the special structure of the hexagon-shaped buildings and the dome.
Just a short distance from the Mosque, there was the Sacred Heart Cathedral. It's such amazing that Christian and Muslim could be living together peacefully. It's the reason why I love the people here, as they would always respect you, no matter what your religion or nation was.

This was the Eternal Flame - to memorize the loss in the War. It has been burning for years and would never burn out.
There always bullet holes in the wall of the houses and buildings here. These were not the decoration or make for the memorizing purpose, instead they were the real evidence from the War. I could imagine the picture of the war at that time.
There was a river called River Miljacka running through the city. It was so relaxing walking and taking rest along the riverside.

The cars in Sarajevo were kind of old-school - The country was still developing
I walked up the hill to visit the historical ruin of a fort. It was located in the urban area and took me about an hour to get there. I was a bit worried about robbery or kind of stuffs happened on the way to the remain, as the way was totally silent and dark in the evening. But it was worthy to have the journey as the view on the hilltop stunned me for long.

The sunset was so breathtaking and it gave me a perfect ending of the day

Very nice post, just want to tel you that there was no such a thing like Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
Oh really? I just get that name in Wiki, may be I get something wrong..thanks for your reminder and compliment :)
follow you :)
You probably meant last war in Bosnia. At that time Yugoslavia was Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Not big deal, but anyway. Thanks for reply.
This was very interesting and the many photos were excellent. Two things that surprised me were the amount of graffiti on the buildings and the garish green and yellow building by the river. Call me traditional, but those images seemed so out of place, and even disappointing, to me.
I appreciate being able to read about and see places where I have not traveled. It's always fascinating to glimpse another place, another culture, another viewpoint. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
I was also surprised by the graffiti. @someone have you ever been to the south of Spain? I am currently visiting. Your pictures remind me of a mix of both Spain and Amsterdam. What type of camera are you using for your pics. I used my phone for these pics of Spain. They are nowhere near as sharp as yours but the phone served its purpose. I would love to get your take on my photos.
SPAIN IS BEAUTIFUL
