Cobnuts III : An update - 31 August 2022
This post is a bit of an update on my local foraging activities.
You might recall I recently discovered cobnuts and even roasted some.
A couple of evenings ago I went out and got some more cobnuts. I did not make any effort to find them but quickly saw the ones that were lying low in the tree branches. Some of the cobnuts were already on the ground by the tree. It hasn't rained so they all were in reasonable condition.
This morning I decided to crack open the few I found with the nutcracker. Have a look :

That has to be one of the biggest cobnuts I’ve seen. It was delicious in its own cobnut type of way : very crunchy and not really much flavour to it.
The quality was very variable and although I did find some gems from the haul of my foraging labour I was not so lucky all the time : the size was either rather small or there was nothing inside the shell. Have a look :

… nothing to see here …
I shared the spoils of my cobnut successes too:

I do feel it is great to be able to find food in trees around you. It is also a good idea to read about what you find in case you need to avoid for personal health issues, particularly allergies - you must know the saying, 'if in doubt, check it out'.
I will be going out later on again to see what I can forage and in the meantime I also need to look out for possibly of my biggest competitors in the search for cobnuts :

I took this photo with a proper digital camera ages ago when it worked
The squirrel friend above is surely very busy collecting and burying some of the cobnuts for future snacks - I will make sure I leave some around too.
Thank you for stopping by.
