More work on the 1965 Coupe

in #classic6 years ago (edited)

So today i got started on removing the front fenders, Grill, and other front end body pieces. It was as i expected more light body rust, Since i plan on removing the whole front sub frame its not that big of a deal. The only other problem is i found out the passenger sub frame is bent a little worse then i had expected. I was not able to get any good pics of the structural problems at this point, But i did spend a couple hours sandblasting sanding and even got a little primer sprayed in a couple hours. So all in all it was a good day. If you have any questions or ideas of things you have done with your builds i would be very interested in any tips. This is my first complete restoration and i am sure i will need some help sometime.

problems are supposed to be solved, JD20180818_172857_088.jpg20180818_214639.jpg20180818_215741.jpg20180818_215755.jpg34322697_10216153375724422_3449402807965188096_o.jpg

Finished the underside of the Front passanger fender this morning. The whole process was carefully remove the fender so you do not cause anymore damage. Next step was to sand blast, sand, wire wheel really its your choice on method. Esess any damage luckly for me i had just a couple small dents and some minor surface rust. So for me i needed a set of body hammers and a sand blaster, made short work of my situation. Next i taped everything i didnt want hit with paint or undercoating very carefully with masking tape and an exacto knife. Now its all down to a nice thin layer of primer i just used paint cans. The trick to a nice even coat is less is more and take your time the last thing you want is runny spots.. Let that dry at least 2 hours. Next is the final process the undercoat/seam sealer. The best thing about undercoat is usually it is where people wont see it. So for me i over spray the corners and tight spots to make sure i get everything coated well.. then i work my way to the middle of my piece trying to feather the material out and make it look smooth.. Not necessarily neccessary but i want a nice product i am happy to show when i am done. The best thing about it all is if you hate the product none of this stuff is that expensive you can always start at step one.

For some reason my phone is not letting me share the picture of the final product i will add a picture when i get home from the Shop. Its sunday its been a long week time to have a couple beers some lunch and get ready for the work week. I plan to keep updating on the project. If there is any part anyone wants close up pictures or actual step by step photos let me know.

I would just recommend making posts and adding the photos. It takes some time to build an audience, but it is an interesting topic and also a bit rare on Steem.

I love those old rides. What engine /trans combo does it have?

Right now it has a late 1970's 302 with the 4 speed auto.
