The Material estimation for an Elevated RCC (Reinforced concrete) Tank

Here we will calculate the cement, sand, crushed stone and of course steel for a conventional water tank. After that, the reader will be able to know the estimation of the material of any circular RCC (reinforced concrete) water tank.

The Material estimation for an Elevated RCC (Reinforced concrete) Tank Here we will calculate the cement, sand, crushed stone and of course steel for a conventional water tank. After that, the reader will be able to know the estimation of the material of any circular RCC (reinforced concrete) water tank.
The Material estimation for an Elevated RCC (Reinforced concrete) Tank
There are two diameters:
External diameter of the water tank =
D = 4.40 meters
Internal diameter of the water tank =
D1 = 4 meters
Water tank depth
= 4 meters
Reinforced concrete in base foundation
= 40 cm = 0.40 meters
Water tank slab thickness
= 10 cm = 0.10 meters
Tank wall thickness
= 20 cm = 0.2 meter
Compressive strength:
M15 or 150 kg/cm2 (1: 2: 4)
Use of steel 2% of reinforced concrete (Concrete volume)
Solution
External diameter of the tank (total diameter)
= D = 4 + 0.2 + 0.2 = 4.4 meters
The internal diameter of the tank
= D2 = 4 meters,

This diameter of the tank is without the wall thickness.

The Material estimation for an Elevated RCC (Reinforced concrete) Tank
Elevated tank water volume (wall) = V
= Reinforced concrete working area x Tank depth
Volume = π /4(D² – D1²) x 4
Volume = π /4 (4.4^² – 4^²) x 4
Volume of reinforced concrete = 10.56 m3
Water Tank Volume Slab
= Slab Area x Slab Thickness
Volume = π D² / 4 x 0.10
= π /4 x (4.4 ^2) x 0.10
Volume = 1.52 m3
Foundation volume
= Foundation area x Foundation depth
Volume = π /4 x D² x 0.40
Volume = 3.142 (4.4 x 4.4) 0.40
Volume = 6.10 m3
Total volume of reinforced concrete work
= volume of water tank wall + volume of water tank slab + volume of foundation
Total volume of reinforced concrete for water tank
= 10.56 + 1.52 + 6.1

= 18.18 m3

Now the calculation for other materials
Dry volume of concrete
= wet volume x 1.54
= 18.18 x 1.54 = 28 m3
Amount of cement
= proportion of cement / Sum of Proportion x dry volume of Concrete
Amount of cement
= 1/7 x dry volume = 1/7 x 28
= 4 m3
Convert to bags of cement
= Total volume of cement / volume of bag of cement
No. of bags of cement = 4 / 0.0347
= 115.44
Let’s say 120 No. of bags
Quantity of Sand = proportion of Sand / Sum of Proportion x dry volume of Concrete
Sand quantity = 2 / 7 x dry volume
= 2 / 7 x 8
= 8 m3
Aggregate Quantity
= Aggregate Proportion / Sum of Proportion x Dry Volume of Concrete
Aggregate Quantity = 4 / 7 x 28
= 16 m3
Volume of steel for water tank
= 2% of the volume of reinforced concrete
Steel volume = 2/100 x 18.18
= 0.3636 m3
For Quantity of steel, we know that Density of steel = 7850 kg/m3
Weight of steel
= Density of steel x Volume of steel
Steel weight
= 7850 kg/m3 x 0.3636 m3
= 2854.26 kg
Let’s say 2900 kg of steel is required for the upper water tank.

Note: We can also use the same formula to find out the amount of same above materials for the rectangular water tank, but there is only shape difference, and, therefore, to find the amount of the materials just use the same formulas that have used in the water tank in above article.
