Dracula. Truth or myth?
Surely all have read about the Count Dracula or have seen many films about this dark character. Stories full of terror where a member of the Transylvanian royalty is possessed by darkness and turned into a Vampire, giving rise to numerous legends where the dark Vampire terrify everyone.
But will this story have any reality?
Well let me tell you that this legend is not completely false. since the Irish writer Bram Stoker, creator of the first novel where Dracula is named, was inspired by the life of a very fearsome character in Romanian history.
The fearsome Vlad lll or better known as Vlad the Impaler.
Vlad lll, born as Vlad Drăculea (Sighişoara, November 1431-Bucharest, December 1476), better known as Vlad the Impaler (in Romanian: Vlad Ţepeş), was Prince of Wallachia, today southern Romania, between 1456 and 1462 He was a great fighter against Ottoman expansionism that threatened his country and the rest of Europe, and was also famous for his way of punishing enemies and traitors. Vlad was orthodox, although later he converted to Catholicism.
He was held hostage by the Ottoman invaders until he was seventeen years old, when he succeeded in taking the throne of Wallachia, from which he was deposed a short time later. However, in 1456, after the Battle of Belgrade, Vlad rose again to the throne, after killing his opponent Vladislav II, and no longer abandoned him until 1462. Later he lived in exile until 1474, when he launched himself again to the battle to recover the position, which would obtain in 1476. Nevertheless, in December of this year it would fall fighting against the Turks, surrounded by its loyal Moldava Guard.

Vlad's evil was feared for how to punish his enemies there is known as the impaler.
The Forest of the Impaled is the place where it is said that Tepes had all the trees cut down to impale more than 20,000 prisoners.
It is estimated that in his three periods of government, which amount to just seven years, executed about 100,000 people, most of the time by the technique of impalement.
