Gas Lighting: A Manipulation of the Mind - Part I

There exists a manipulation tactic called "gas lighting". It refers to the act that a person/institution engages in towards an individual/masses in which they confidently tell outright lies, and repeat those lies often, to the individual/masses to make them question their own reality and ask themselves if they've gone crazy. This is highly effective in taking control over an individual, specifically their mind. When this is done on a large scale, it can have disastrous effects to society.

Institutions, such as governments, the media, the education system, all embrace this physiological weapon to social engineer the masses. One way gas lighting can be achieved is through consistently telling particularly large untruths over and over until a person succumbs to the authority of the gas lighter. Adolf Hitler once said:

"If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed."

Adolf Hitler understood this physiological weapon and he employed it very effectively. Let's break this quote down into two important parts that make gas lighting effective. First, there needs to be some sort of trust/authority seen by the individual/masses in the institution espousing the untruth. With this trust/authority, the institution can espouse any lie, no matter the size, and the individual/masses will inherently believe it. Second, there needs to be dissemination of the untruth on a routine basis and extended over a long enough time period. The greater number of institutions spreading the untruth makes the individual/masses believe it more and more and question what they know to be right, but fail to hold on to the truth. This last part utilizes a fundamental psychological weapon called "Peer Pressure". When enough institutions spread (often collude to do so) the untruth, the individual/masses feel inclined to believe the untruth, fearing social ridicule and exile.

Utilizing this psychological weapon, governments, the media, the education system, all have taken part in subjecting you to gas lighting, whether they know it or not. In my next post, I'll take an in depth look at a few examples of how this weapon has been deployed on us by the very institutions that we are constantly told are trustworthy and/or necessary for a "civil society"
