Three days in a row christmas meat dishes in times of climate crisis.
Please do not judge me hastily. I have been able to reduce my meat consumption significantly in 2019 and would like to reduce it even more in 2020.
today, on the second christmas holiday, i was visiting my grandmother for dinner. i had a traditional franconian roast venison with dumplings - very tasty!
a couple of weeks before i had already talked to her about veganism and the positive effects on the environment. Opinions were already divided. probably a 93-year-old woman from poland, who witnessed the second world war and the resulting famine, has less understanding for the effects of meat consumption on the environment.
"i talked to an old acquaintance of mine from poland, they throw their old rubber boots in the oven there - and now i'm supposed to give up meat here?"
in other words, why should I practice renunciation when others do not?
although i could learn a lot from her and appreciate her opinion, we will not match on this point.
if i take a look at the development of worldwide meat consumption, then my grandmother is not the only one who does not want to go with less meat.
Although i am far from sympathizing with putin, his commentary on greta's UN speech made me think.
“No one has explained to Greta that the modern world is complex and different and ... people in Africa or in many Asian countries want to live at the same wealth level as in Sweden.”
According to the OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook (2018-2027), meat consumption will increase in the upcoming years. Beef consumption for example will be 24% higher in Asia and 21% higher in developing regions by the year 2027.
Maybe I`ll take the chance for next christmas and will cook a vegeterian dish. Any ideas?
