December 11th - Children and time.

in #christmas8 years ago

It is said: Christmas is all about children and family, or is it really?

In all the hustle and bustle of gift buying and festivity preparation is all that time we could be spending with our children consumed by other things.

How absorbent a child’s mind is.

Let’s give them great memories to cherish of real activities and quality time spent together.

Its not long and then they are not children any more.

This is the eleventh way of serving in 25 ways over 25 days leading up to Christmas.

Its easy:

  1. watch the short clip
  2. follow the instructions
  3. make it happen
  4. then tweet or otherwise share your results using... #lighttheworld... encourage others to participate
  5. 25 days is enough consistency to form a new habit...

If every day this December we are slightly more mindful of others we may find ourselves with a new great habit to continue into the new year and beyond.

THREE SIMPLE WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

  • Ask your children what they think you should pray about as a family.
  • Set one night a week aside for just you and your children. Find ideas here.
  • As a Christmas gift, purchase a picture of Jesus Christ for your child’s room. Teach your child about the Savior’s love for him or her.

OTHER WAYS TO PARTICIPATE

  • Volunteer to tutor local students.
  • Read with your children Mark 10:13–16 to learn about how Jesus Christ interacted with and loved children.
  • Sign up to be a mentor for at-risk children.
  • Make plans to participate with each of your children in a one-on-one activity.
  • Teach your child, grandchild, niece, or nephew a new skill.
  • Teach your child how to pray before going to bed.
  • Make time for family dinner.
  • Commit to slow down whenever you enter a school zone.
  • When your children talk to you, stop everything you are doing, and listen.
  • Visit JustServe.org for more ways to #LIGHTtheWORLD in your community (U.S. and Canada only).

Hi @gavvet
One easy way to do this is to always have dinner at the dinning room table, together as a family, and the read out of the bible, reflect on what you have read and then pray together at the end. Around the table, removed from the TV etc, you can spend quality time as a family. How many of us still do this, but most of us grew up doing this.

Gadgets so often get in the way and "family" is eroded in the process... we think we are so smart with our progression but in many ways we as a society are actually regressing especially in the areas you describe.

I am going to literally turn my back to the computer screen every time they come to speak with me.
