Food for Though (12) Time to know “who you are”!

Read: Mat 16:16-19

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ,[b] the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[c] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[d] will not overcome it.[e] 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[f] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[g] loosed in heaven.”(Mat 16, NIV) – emphasis added*

Jesus commented Peter for his divine revelation about Jesus

But, revelation comes with a responsibility- to bind and to loose.

Jesus himself took the responsibility of building the Church. But each person who received authority/power from Jesus has to use it and do their part

He has given us the authority to become the children of God (John 1:12)

A Police officer is given authority and power, to use it, not to “sleep” with it

In the same way, God has given us the authority and power for a reason; to use it

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8, NIV)

While the church is proudly (!) sleeping with their authority and power, satan is using his power to attack the sleeping ones

Jesus is watching us. He is dealing with many attacks the devil is planning against us. But if we choose to continue sleeping, we will let many people become victims of devil’s work and finally we ourselves will become a victim

This is the time to be alert, to watch and pray

When Jesus sent the disciples, he said:

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:19-20, NIV)

If we don’t want to use our divine authority to bind/loose and to build for Jesus and to destroy the works of the devil, better return all our badges and authority back to Jesus, instead of “sleeping” over it

Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “Now, I have put my words in your mouth.
See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.” (Jer 1:9-10, NIV)- emphasis added

God sometimes wonder when His children cry like a baby, wearing all the uniform and the badges, not using their authority. Instead of telling the devil “get away from me”, we call God (and then everybody else) and cry “save me”!

It is time to know “who you are” in Christ!

Prayer for Today:
Lord Jesus, I am sorry for not understanding my own authority and power, as a child of God. Help me to command when I have to, to build and to destroy, to bind and to loose. Amen
