MUSIC AND WORSHIP SERIES - 1
Music has been around for ages. Even before the time of man, there was music because angels worshiped God and music was and is still a major component of worship. Lucifer was described as the chief musician or as we’d call it - music director.
Music is appealing and soothing to the soul. It is the only element I have seen that penetrates the soul of man.
Have you ever been in an environment where you find yourself dancing or tapping your toes to a melody or even nodding your head to beat? Yes. Most times we have no control over these responses, they just tend to happen and it’s as a result of how powerful music is.
David made good music and the evil spirit in Saul fled. Saul felt fine anytime David was around to play the harp and string instrument.
Music put smiles on sad faces, makes an angry man dance, makes the hungry satisfied. Music depending on a lot of other things, is a powerful element of nature as I’d call it. It’s all around us. Music is everything it needs to be; it is the only element that cuts across most things in life.
Tools, as I call them used in making music are also all around us and the one closest to us is the human voice. There are musical instruments like the piano, drums, guitars, harp, trumpets, sax, trombones, tambourines, flutes, congas etc. These various instruments are all tools for noise making as well as tools for making good music. A developed skill set is what differentiate a musician from a noise maker.
Like I implied, music – a very creative means through which messages are transmitted FASTER, is all around us.
Nature is music itself. The birds, trees, animals, they all make music as far as I’m concerned.
This is a very short series I am sharing concerning my opinion on music and worship.
Music is awesome in all sense and it is also very powerful and should be carefully treated.
Since music is a major medium for worship, in my next post I will be talking about the link between music and worship, but for now you can tell me what you think about music, how it appeals to you, what your view on modern music in the church is.
