Wise Sayings from the Wiset King Part 2
Hello steemers!
It's been a while, and I apologize. Things have been quite crazy as of late.
However, I do want to issue you out part 2 of Wise Sayings from the Wiset King.
Last time, we left at given a brief introduction into the author, his work, and the first 6 verses of the book of Proverbs.
We were told that the book of Proverbs is for anyone wanting to be wise.
Today, the author is going to tell us how to start obtaining it.
Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
If we want to be wise, then we need to heed the words of a wise man. Remember Solomon was given wisdom like no other from God.
And Solomon says the beginning of knowledge (discernment, wisdom, understanding) is by fearing the Lord.
Now what does it mean by fear? Most of the time what comes to our mind is meaning that we are scared of something or someone.
However, here fear means to respect, reverence, piety.
We should fear the Almighty Creator after all He is the reason why we are breathing right now.
And if you want to be wise wouldn't it be wise to seek the Creator the infinite being Who brought everything into existence by His mighty hands.
Now, I get that they are many religions out there and some even claim that all religions lead to the same God. I'm not here to debate that, however, I will state my view and we can carry on.
Imagine, you are standing in a court room and across the court room is the murderer and rapist of a dear family member of yours. You wait to hear the sentencing of the judge that you hopefully would damn the criminal.
However, the criminal starts to plead his case and say that he does many good things, he helps the poor and needy. Helps school kids with his homework, give money to charity, etc. But he slipped up this once.
The judge then says I see that before this, you were a decent man, and because I am a good judge - I will let you go.
How will you feel? Imagine it was your mom or sister that he murdered and rape. What would your thoughts be about the judge?
Now, pretty much all of us would agree that God is good. And we pretty much agree that criminals needs to be punish.
The Bible says there is none good, no not one. None of us that which is righteous. Think about it? How many lies have you told in your whole life? Have you ever stolen anything? Use God's name in vain? Look with lust (sexual desire for anyone other than your spouse)?
If we are all honest, we can say that we either did all of those things or most of them.
If God is good, then He can just let criminals into Heaven.
This is where Jesus comes in. Jesus the Messiah came over 2,000 years ago and lived a life pleasingly to the Father. The only One Who could, and he took our death sentence upon Himself. However, on the third day, Jesus rose from the grave defeating death. And He lives for evermore.
If you repent (stop trusting in yourself or your own good works) and place your faith (trust) in Jesus then He will save you from your sins.
The word of God is truth, and I encourage you to stay with me and we dive more in depth in the book of Proverbs and study the wise sayings from the Wiset King.
Till then, remember "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction." Proverbs 1:7
