Gospel, John 2:13-25

When the time of the Jewish Passover was near Jesus went up to Jerusalem,

and in the Temple he found people selling cattle and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting there.

Making a whip out of cord, he drove them all out of the Temple, sheep and cattle as well, scattered the money changers' coins, knocked their tables over

and said to the dove sellers, 'Take all this out of here and stop using my Father's house as a market.'

Then his disciples remembered the words of scripture: I am eaten up with zeal for your house.

The Jews intervened and said, 'What sign can you show us that you should act like this?'

Jesus answered, 'Destroy this Temple, and in three days I will raise it up.'

The Jews replied, 'It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple: are you going to raise it up again in three days?'

But he was speaking of the Temple that was his body,

and when Jesus rose from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the scripture and what he had said.

During his stay in Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he did,

but Jesus knew all people and did not trust himself to them;

he never needed evidence about anyone; he could tell what someone had within.

Reflection on the Gospel of the Lord

In today's Gospel, Jesus went to Jerusalem for the feast of Jewish Passover. Upon his visit to the temple, Jesus was disappointed because he found out that the vendors is turning the temple into a marketplace. Jesus Christ drove these vendors away because they were not there to serve the will of God but only to themselves and this make the Lord angry. What the people did to the temple brought forth the holy wrath of our Lord.

Jesus Christ did not lose his temper in fact he was in control of himself when he drove the vendors away from the temple. Because Jesus loves God the Father so much, he want to make it clear that the temple is the house of God. He is not angry with the vendors but to the sinful act they committed. Our Lord Jesus Christ hates the sin in our lives and he wants to cleanse us from our sins.
