Daily Gospel: The Greatest Commandment is to Love God above all things
Daily Gospel for Friday March 9, 2018
Gospel, Mark 12:28-34
One of the scribes who had listened to them debating appreciated that Jesus had given a good answer and put a further question to him, 'Which is the first of all the commandments?'
Jesus replied, 'This is the first: Listen, Israel, the Lord our God is the one, only Lord,
and you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength.
The second is this: You must love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.'
The scribe said to him, 'Well spoken, Master; what you have said is true, that he is one and there is no other.
To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and strength, and to love your neighbour as yourself, this is far more important than any burnt offering or sacrifice.'
Jesus, seeing how wisely he had spoken, said, 'You are not far from the kingdom of God.' And after that no one dared to question him any more.
Reflection on the Gospel of the Lord
Jesus Christ make it a point that the Greatest Commandment is to put God above all things and love him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. This is his answer to the one of the scribes when he ask Jesus is which is the first of all the commandments.
This is our mission in life. To love God above all things. Because our God is the only God and the greatest act the we can do in life is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. To love God above all things is always the goal that we must strive for in life.
But to totally Love God, we must come to know Him. We must strive to understand and believe in Him through the scriptures that has been revealed to us. We must attempt to know the mystery of God's life using the Bible and through the teachings of the Church. We must have a deeper understanding of God and how he work His ways.
If we have done this, then we will see our lives change and find joy in following God. It will be easy for us to Love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.
