Daily Psalms and Proverbs - Sat. 6/24/17

in #christianity8 years ago (edited)

A good day to all reading this! Today's reading is Psalm 5:1-2 and Proverbs 3:3-4.

Psalm 5:1-2

{To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of David.} Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.

Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

In these verses we see David's persistence in calling out to the Lord. In Matthew 7:7-8, Jesus tells us, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." The parable He told of the persistent widow in Luke 18 also instructs us to keep going to God in faith.

Proverbs 3:3-4

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Verse 3 is meant to bring to mind the phylacteries made and used by the Jews, in which they physically wear verses of Scripture in order to keep them in mind. Here Solomon is summing up what is in the commandments of God, mercy and truth, and telling his son that if he always keeps mercy and truth first in his mind, he will please God and be honored among men for his good character.

Psalms 57:10 For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds.

Thank you! And yours too! I never even quite noticed it before, actually, but it's quite a thought to consider. Thank you for sharing!
