Thoughts for the day - 2/20/18
He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.
—Proverbs 17:9
True friends can be very hard to come by and even harder to keep. Sometimes changes in location, profession or outlooks are a real challenge; however, more than anything we often shed friends by our own doing.
Our verse today is not suggesting we cover up illegal activities of ones we know, but instead, mask, shelter and forget a wrong done to ourselves or someone else on a personal basis as apposed to announcing or broadcasting this infraction or situation which can only cause harm. Again, we are not talking about collusion or corruption we are talking about respecting and uplifting friends when they may have hurt us us or embarrassed themselves, when they made a poor choice or said some unkind and unchecked words they would so much like to take back.
When do you think they need a friend the most? When do you?
Jesus built friends. He shared, laughed, cried, ate and even died for His friends. That is friendship.

Good post @bycoleman. Who are the true friends? They are the ones that stands by you to share your thoughts and help solve every problem. Not the ones that come and go when problems arises. Jesus exercises true friendship that we must exhibit in our daily lives.

All the things in our lives, all the complicated structures we spent so much time and energy creating, are built on sand. Only relationships with other people endure. When a big wave comes along and knock down everything what we have worked so hard to build up, we need somebody's hand to hold to help us through these trying times.
Value friends. Treat them as you would yourself. With understanding, compassion, charity, care, and most importantly, with love. For in the end, they will be the only one who will be there for you.
Yes, and the big waves come and come again.
A true friend stays and stays again.

I too need this reminder often myself.
In my opinion they need a friend when they suffer deathly ailment such as cancer. They need support from friends to survive. Spiritually, they need friends to remind them to the right path of life.
Yes, indeed. The time when someone needs a friend the most is when they feel they have nearly nothing to give.
I have been learning this at my work, and I know it's sinking in because I don't even find it hard to bite my tongue anymore. I have learned that these few have been raised in a harsh environment and don't have, or possibly want, the skills or compassion to treat others with respect. I now understand that the way they act should in no way affect the way I act.

We shouldn't be friends who crush one another, but one who sticks closer than a brother (proverbs 18:24) , because it's only slandering that separates close friendship (proverbs 16:28). Well, according to proverbs 17:17, true friends shows love at all times and is a brother who is born in times of distress
I belief this is were the good old saying that "a friend in need, is a friend indeed" originated from.
