Wise lizard! (Story / parable of Paisios of Mount Athos)

One day, a very educated and knowledgeable man came to the old man Paisios of Mount Athos. He studied many sciences, but did not believe in God.

He told to the elder Paisios:

"I find it hard to believe that there is a God." I know so much, and I can explain why and how everything happens. And I cannot accept what you are saying about Christ.

Paisios listened carefully and said:

"But you are more stupid than lizards."

The scientist was very offended and began to protest. But the elder Paisios continued:

You're more stupid than lizards; I'll prove it to you.

Next to the house of the old man lived one lizard, and he called her.

She approached the old man. And old Paisios asked her if there is a God? Then she got up, sat down on her back legs and nodded her head.

Seeing this, the scientist became embarrassed and began to cry.

But the old man said to him:

Now you see that you are more stupid than a lizard? She knows that there is a God. You are human, but do not want to understand that God exists.

Then the scientist left the old man shocked and touched.
