Psalm 2: 1-3

Like many of The Psalms, in the final verse the theme of Psalm 2 is emphasized. We can perish and defy God, or be blessed when surrendering to Him. The author is not identified in The Psalm itself, but if we look at ( Acts 4:25–26 ) we see it is clearly attributed to David.

  • The rebellion of the nations.
Why do the nations rage,
And the people plot a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,
"Let us break Their bonds in pieces
And cast away Their cords from us."
  • Why do the nations rage.

Here the Psalmist seems truly and genuinely mystified. In raging against God the nations have no benefit and they have no reason to do so. It is nothing but a vain thing with regards to their opposition against God.

  • The rulers take counsel together.

If we look back to the time since Babel, we see that men continue to do the following... They band themselves together against God. Men feel that they have a better chance if two or more of them stand against God as opposed to only one of them standing against God.

  • Against the LORD and against His Anointed.

They oppose two things namely...

  • The Lord
  • His Annointed

Annointed speaks of Jesus Christ, the Anointed One. Jesus Christ is the perfect representation of The Father. See below Scripture...

Now because of this, if you oppose Jesus you oppose God the Father, and if you oppose God the Father, you oppose Jesus.

  • Let us break Their bonds in pieces.

There are those whom think of God the Father as a bondage-bringer. Because of this they oppose Jesus and God. This is clear evidence of spiritual insanity, because God is not a bondage-bringer, He is a bondage-breaker.
