God is always on your side; Story of David and Goliath
( 1samuel 17:1-54)( NKJV)
David was a son to Jesse who was an Ephrathite from Bethlehem in Judah. Jesse had eight sons and three of these were soldiers in king Saul's army.
Goliath was a philistine champion who always challenged the Israelites. He was three meters tall and wore bronze armour that weighed about fifty seven kilograms and a bronze helmet. His legs were also protected by bronze armour and he carried a bronze javelin slung over his shoulder. His spear was as thick as the bar on a weaver's loom, and its iron head weighed about seven kilograms. Goliath always challenged the Israelites to bring their own champion to fight him and if he killed him the philistines would serve the Israelites forever and if their champion failed to kill him, then the Israelites would serve them. For forty days Goliath appeared before the Israelites but they never had a man to fight Goliath.
David was just a mere shepherd who took care of his father's sheep, with no military training. He was the youngest of his father's children.
David defeats Goliath
One day David was sent to deliver food to his three brothers in the battle field, when he over heard Goliath threaten the Israelites. He stood up accepted his challenge and asked for what reward the person who defeated Goliath would get from defeating Goliath. The person who would kill Goliath would marry Saul's daughter and be honoured in the whole of Israel
David trusted and believed in his God who gave him the strength to kill a lion and bear while taking care of the sheep. All he had was a sling and a stone plus God right besides him. Without any armour he defeated Goliath and cut off his head and the Israelites were able to defeat the philistine army.
Lessons to learn;
- No matter how big the situation your going through is, you are not alone. God is always by your side and he will protect you from all harm.
- Avoid company of people with negative speech. Never let anyone underestimate your potential. Believe in yourself always.
- Always seek for help from God through prayers and he will always be besides you and never let you go through tough times on your own.
