Another in the “Build Your House Upon the Rock”, series. OBEDIENCE

Mat 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

As I started to write on the topic build your house on the rock of Christ, I wanted to examine some of the attributes of Jesus Christ. The first post was about love and now I am looking very briefly at obedience.

Obedience is a huge topic, it is the difference between life and death, this is as much physical death as it is spiritual. From the beginning, in Genesis 3, disobedience caused the fall. Even in the selected verse above, we can see Christ declaring the man who not only hears his words but does them is wise and standing on a solid foundation.

1Jn 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

As a true follower of Christ, we ought to keep His commandments. This means to live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. It makes absolutely no sense, to be faithfully attending church, performing required duties or even doing good to our neighbor to look good in the sight of men, when God knows the heart, because in the end, we will hear turn away from me I never knew you.

Joh 8:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

Joh 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

As we can see from the verses above, Jesus Christ was obedient to His Father. He says that He does nothing of his self, but does only what pleases His Father. This is the epitome of his sinless state, total obedience, on the contrary, this is how Adam failed and cut off his spiritual connection. Friends, this is where we ought to strive to be, when we are in this place, we avail ourselves useful to God. Here we are seen by the world as the light and salt of the earth, when Satan cannot lift an accusatory finger pointed in our direction.

Luk 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

A very important question. Why do we say that Jesus is our Lord and yet do not do the things he says? Sometimes we judge ourselves on sins of committal which people battle every-day, example, lying, stealing or gossiping to mention a few. There is also a sin of omission, when God is calling you at three o’clock In the morning to get up and come away with Him what is your answer, or go on a three-day fast, what do you say? If He says to you, put in a special offering, which would affect negatively on your budget, do you trust Him? If you read Romans 14:23, you will see that, a lack of faith is also sin.

Tit 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

I want to end with this scripture, let us not allow the above verse to refer to us. My brothers, sisters and friends, let us walk uprightly and In righteousness. God’s plans for our lives is beyond our expectations, and we cannot fathom what is to come, so let us press on toward the goal, putting off every weight of sin which can so easily beset us. Since all of God’s promises to us are Yes and Amen, we can trust Him, He is not a man that He should lie.

1Pe 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
