"The Story of the 10 Lepers..." - Daily Word #89

2 Days ago I mentioned about the 3 Stories of Healing. Today, I would like to unpack the first story about the 10 Lepers.

Leprosy is a contagious disease that affects the skin, mucous membranes, and nerves, causing discolouration and lumps on the skin and, in severe cases, disfigurement and deformities. Source And in the days of the bible, people with leprosy were outcast because they were deemed "unclean" and could not live normal lives with their families and communities.

We catch this story in Luke 17:12-16 (NIV)

As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. Source

There are many Gems in this One passage of Scripture. Here are just 5 Insights;

1- Those who are "sick" often stick around with others who are also "sick"
Yes, they were outcast...and so it was wise to stick with each other to support one another. However, if you really want to be Well, we may need to STEP out of our current "sick" mindsets, conditions and environment

2- If you are sick, you may need a Dr. If you are very sick, you may need a very good Dr.
They called upon Jesus because they were very sick and recognized that the Good Dr. Jesus was the ONLY one that could actually heal them!

3- You need to be aware of your condition and SHOUT Out for Help
Some people may not ask for help because of pride, ego or self-esteem, it's time to humble ourselves and seek for guidance, help, wisdom and strength.

4- God often asks us to DO SOMETHING about our situation/condition
In this example, Jesus asked ALL 10 of them to Show Themselves to the priests. And as they WENT OUT, their Healing Began to Take Place. It always boils down to OBEYING Whatever the LORD tells us to do!

5- All 10 Healed, yet 9 Never Came back to Give Thanks!
When we want something, we cry out to God. When we receive it, we just walk away and back into our old mould. We need to remember that EVERYTHING comes from God and it can also be taken back. The lesson here is about having a Heart of GRATITUDE to the Lord.

What did you take out (learning, insights) from this sharing?

I pray that you and I will be like the 1 Samaritan who Came Back to Give Thanks for ALL He has done! And not just when we have received something (like a breakthrough), but EVERYDAY just Praising Him because He is Our Lord God.
