Virtually everyone likes numbers. We like large crowds at programmes and in church. We love to see large choirs sing. We're enthralled by myriads of soldiers who don't break their ranks. Indeed, we even love to see large crowds at football stadia; we revel in the electrically charged atmosphere. But what is more important than numbers?

Wholeheartedness is the answer. By reason of an utter lack of this priceless value, God reduced Gideon's army by more than two-thirds of the original number. He would rather use a single wholehearted man than a thousand half-hearted men. The reason is simple. A heart that is fully surrendered to God will go as far as God needs him to.

"Wholeheartedness says, "not my will, but yours" even when the battle gets tougher. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, was obedient till death on the cross because He was not half-hearted. The early apostles were able to spread the Gospel against rife resistance because they had their hearts fully committed.

Half-heartedness accurately foretells eventual failure. Let's remember the second part of a popular scripture we quote says, "and they loved not their lives unto the death." (Romans 12:11b). That is the heart of the overcomer.

Whatever your role is in the kingdom of God, be it a pastor, singer, instrumentalist, usher, prayer warrior, etc, you cannot be used by God fully, if you are half-hearted. God will use you mightily if you make up your mind to commit your heart to Him fully.
