A Case for Christian Common Purse

in #christian-trail7 years ago (edited)

Yahshua’s economic teachings are challenging. They are powerful. They will change the world.

The Book of Acts describes his followers as a group of devout believers. Their baptism was a turning point in their lives. From that point on they would enter into a community that shared everything. No-one held private property or personal wealth. They would share it equally amongst the fellowship, so that everyone’s needs were met. The rich would voluntarily give up all that they had gained, so that the poor could be fed, clothed and sheltered. They would take care of the orphans, widows and the sick. Where does this come from? Was this something that was taught by the Messiah? (Acts 2:41-47, Acts 4:31-37)

In Mathew, Mark and Luke, Yahshua instructs the wealthy to sell all that they have and give to the poor. He says that you will then have treasure in heaven. He tells us to store up for our-selves treasure in heaven that will last for all eternity. He also says in Luke, “blessed are you who are poor” and “woe to you who are rich”. This is the economy of the Kingdom of Heaven. (Mat 19:21, Mar 10:21, Luk 18:22 and Luk 6:20 & 24)

Many Christians hold the modern economic value system. Earn money. Buy a nice house and a nice car. Tithe your 10%. Volunteer occasionally. The call of a Christian is much greater than this. We need to follow the economic teachings of our Master. Imagine a world where these teachings are followed by the people who believe in him. What would this world be like?

There are many great examples of communities that follow this example. The Bruderhof is a longstanding example. If you have read these words and they are calling to you, seek out these communities. Seek others who feel the calling as well. Seek first the Kingdom of heaven and all these things will be given to you. (Mat 6:31-34)

These are only a few examples. Study what Yahshua taught about money and possessions.

Comment! I would love to hear what you have to say.
