The Origin, History, & Place Of The Bible In The World
How was the bible written? When was it written? Why was it written?
Holy men wrote the scriptures, by the inspiration of the Spirit of God. The scriptures began to be written centuries after the flood that preserved Noah and his family, for the purpose that the knowledge of God and of his will should not perish from the earth. This work went on, until Christ came, who proclaimed the message of salvation, and by his apostles the record of the word of God was complete. The Old testament of the bible was first written in hebrew, on scrolls, parchments and papyrus. They were later translated to greek, by the original order of Alexander the Great. The New testament was first written in greek. In later years the whole bible was then translated to latin
In early civilization, there were no printing methods known, so the bible was produced by writing alone. This largely limited its circulation, and its truths were obscured for centuries by errors, superstitions and apostasy of the dark ages because people knew little to nothing of its contents. With the invention of printing in the fifteenth century, this led to the great reformation and all the events that followed after.
The bible was first translated into english by John Wycliffe in 1380. This prepared the way for revival of christianity of England. Martin Luther also translated the bible to the german language, his mother tongue in 1534. Miles Coverdale was the first to print a complete English bible, which he did in Zurich in 1535.
Great persecution of christians, and burning of bibles followed the great success of the reformation brought about by the printing of bibles. Many who stood for the word of God, faced destruction of their books, burning at the stake, stranglings and so many other terrible persecutions. But the word of God cannot be bound. The more they tried to suppress its truths, the more it kept spreading like wildfire.
Now there are many bible societies, helping to spread the knowledge of God's word to the whole world, by giving the bible to every nation in their own language, so that none will be without excuse, that they could not read the scriptures.
In preparation and in readiness of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, is the word of God being shared and preached world over, in all languages of the earth. Millions of bible are being printed and shared to people in all nations of the earth in fulfillment of the holy scriptures, as it is written in Matthew 24 : 14 "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."
