300 Year Old Treasury Found in the Bottom of China River
Chinese archaeologists have found diving treasure in the river of Sichuan in the southwestern province 300 years ago. There are more than ten thousand items of gold and silver in the treasury.
Official news agency Xinhua quoted Gao Dalu, director of the provincial cultural relics and archaeological research institute, that these items contain iron-made weapons besides gold, silver, copper coins and jewelery. These weapons include swords, knives and spears. Apart from these, gold and silver utensils have also been found.
The design of jewelery shows the craftsmanship of that period. The place at which this dug was excavated in the Minjiang River is 50 km away from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan.
The task of finding treasure here started in January this year and will run till April. This time it is dry weather here. Archaeologists hope to get more items.
The treasure was drowned in battle
It is believed that in 1646, the leader of the Kisan revolution Zhang Shinzhong was defeated by the Ming dynasty soldiers when he was taking his treasure southward. The coins and valuables being transported on about one thousand boats were sunk into the river during the fight.
