Major factors that affect the status of women in society
The status of a woman is a complex matter. It really is a tough to explain this subject. In every society and culture, the status of women varies in an unusual way. The status of women has improved in some societies. Where as in others, it remained as it is. It is not standardized or defined that how to judge the status of women in a society. What I think will make a difference is the financial independence. The financial independence will give ability to the women to survive in a better way.
At any stage in life, or at any point in time, a woman should always remember that others may determine their status, but it is only herself who has to earn it. None other can give it to her. Around the world, women’s status varies but the means to improvement is true everywhere. My message is to all the women who have to put in their efforts to make it happen by improving themselves.
Different countries and different cultures have different ideas on what status should be there for women. Even though the status of a woman differs, a truth always is there that a woman’s status is lower than that of a man’s. Women were measured lesser to men in practical life. The status of women was not clear. It was hypothetically high but virtually low. Women were barred to take part in outside affair. They were affected by the pressure of their parents before wedding and their spouse after marriage.
Talking about the culture in India, There was the tradition of ‘Sati’. Widows were forcibly burnt on the funeral pyre of their deceased husbands. There was no transformation in the destiny of women even at the time of British rule in India. The situation became poorer even at the time of Mogul rule. So, the situation of women in ancient India was very poor. With changing times, The Government is making efforts to put an end to the disparity among men and women. According to the law, men and women are one and the same by law. The government is putting special stress on the education of women.
The condition began to transform with the changing times. At present in the United States, a woman is neither less nor more than a man. A woman’s role in the world is considerably changing. They are gradually growing towards an equal status. The growing status of women is not so fast but firm. Women have talented many achievements, and have shown a lot of hard work, trying to gain equivalent human rights. In the corporate field women are doing very well. Women are now seen maintaining a balance between the role of a woman, her motherhood, and her duties towards the family and society.
