TikTok is A Paedophile Magnet And UnSafe For Kids, Warns Cyber Security Experts
I'm sure if your a parent out there you've heard of the latest social media fad TikTok, if you haven't then basically it's a short-form video sharing platform that came out of China in 2016.
If your children are using the platform you may want to consider monitoring their activity at the very least if the following warning from cybersecurity experts is to be taken seriously:
'TikTok is not a safe app and there are many concerns, not the least bullying and grooming by predators.
Paedophiles like to watch kids sing and dance so they can take the videos and share them.
The data gathering is a huge concern and if the government is worried then it is not a place for kids.'
The comments came after an investigation in the UK found that children as young as eight were being groomed on TikTok.
It found children were being bombarded by explicit messages on the app.
TikTok’s Actions Favor Paedophiles

Unfortunately, not only do TikTok’s terms of use favour the paedophile, but it seems their moderators have a soft spot for child predators too. Sexually explicit comments appeared on videos posted to TikTok by children as young as 9 years old.
When reported to TikTok, most of the comments were removed within 24 hours. Most. But while they did remove most of the comments after they were reported, the vast majority of offenders have not kicked off the platform.
Though TikTok’s terms of use prohibit sexual messages directed at children, not only do they wait for comments to be reported to them, but they are not likely to take any action against the offenders. Why?
Why on earth would any organization so openly support the disgusting and very public actions of these paedophiles? By not adhering to their own terms, they are basically saying “go on everyone, no means yes”.
What is TikTok?
- TikTok is a Chinese social media app where users can live stream, create short videos and music videos and Gifs with a host of functions.
- TikTok's tagline is 'Make every second count'.
- It was the most downloaded app in the US in 2018 and the world's fourth most downloaded app in 2018, ahead of Instagram and Snapchat.
- TikTok is known in China as Douyin where it was launched in 2016 and then made more widely available around the world in 2017.
- Douyin is still the version of the app used in China, available to download separately to TikTok.
- Last year, the app was merged with popular music video lip-syncing app Musical.ly, also with headquarters in China.
- Most children use the app to film themselves lip-syncing to chart hits.
- It offers users a raft if colourful modification and editing tools including overlaying music, sound, animated stickers, filters and augmented reality (AR) for creating short videos.
- The Beijing based social network has more than 500 million active users and the company is now worth more than $75 billion (£58 billion).
