CHECKMATE #102-KNOWING YOUR PIECES AND THEIR MOVEMENTS

Hey there fellow Steemians once again! You are welcome to the second episode of checkmate 102#
Today we are going to talk about the chess pieces and their movements.
As we all know its going to follow up with a tip . :)
First we start with the
KING
This is the most important piece in the chess game. The object of the game is to threaten the opponent's king in such a way that escape is not possible (Checkmate) If the players King is threatened with capture it is said to be in check. How to "un-check" yourself ? You need to move the king to a safe spot( place where he can not be checked) or place another piece to intercede with the checking.
The King is the most important piece but also the weakest in the game.

The movements of the king is very simple. It only moves one step in any direction.

BE SURE TO ALWAYS KEEP YOUR KING SAFE AT ALL TIMES

QUEEN
Now, this is the most powerful piece in the game. It is not advisable to loose your queen in the early stages of the game because there could be a high possibility of you loosing the game if you are not good.
With the chessboard oriented correctly, the white queen starts on a white square and the black queen starts on a black square. (Thus the mnemonics "queen gets her color", "queen on [her] [own] color")

The queen can move any number of square vertically , horizontally and diagonally IF there are no pieces restricting its movements.

BISHOP
Each player has two bishops at the start of the game. One light colored and the other dark colored so they dont end up crossing themselves.

The bishop has no restrictions in distance for each move, but is limited to diagonal movement. Bishops, like all other pieces except the knight, cannot jump over other pieces. A bishop captures by occupying the square on which an enemy piece sits.

KNIGHT
The knight is a piece in the game representing a knight (armored cavalry). It is represented by a horse head and neck. Each player gets two knights at the beginning of the game too.
This is the most fearsome piece to me cause you never know where it is going to strike from hence its movements.

The movements of the knight is not soo complex as people say. The knight move is unusual among chess pieces. It moves to a square that is two squares away horizontally and one square vertically, or two squares vertically and one square horizontally. The complete move therefore looks like the letter L. Unlike all other standard chess pieces, the knight can "jump over" all other pieces (of either color) to its destination square. It captures an enemy piece by replacing it on its square.

ROOK
The rook , informally and old-fashioned also known as castle is a piece in the chess game. Each player starts the game with two rooks, one on each of the corner squares on their own side of the board.
This is the next powerful piece after the Queen.

The rook moves in a vertical and horizontal way only.
It captures by replacing the piece being held captive. Its movements are restricted when it is blocked by another piece.

PAWN
This is the most numerous piece in the game usually representing infantry or slavery.
They are also considered weak but as the old adage goes "Never judge by appearance". Although it is weak and small it is very mighty in a lot of ways which i will explain later.
Each player begins with 8 pawns

The pawn moves straight forward by a step and captures diagonally by a step. The pawn can take two steps forward If it is the first move.

Tip for this post: Always try to space up your pieces when playing to enable free movements between pieces.
