Chess puzzle #2
Dear chess friends, today I'd like to present a nice chess puzzle with a surprising solution (at least to me). I found the puzzle in my The puzzle is from a chess player and study composer who's name is Wladimir Horwitz. I like the puzzle because of its White to move and check mate in 5 moves! Enjoy to rack your brains! |
Yes, that is the correct solution! You are declared the winner of this puzzle :-) Queen and bishop change places so to say. The pawn on h3 is needed to avoid stalemate (to give black an extra move) and the knight on h1 is needed for the same reason. Kg1 is so cool......isn't it?
Mr. Horwitz was indeed very creative when creating this chess problem. There you can see the difference between a professional and myself: my problems are creative, too, but by far not as tricky as this one was ...
You make it look so easy :).
Don't worry, it was a hard nut to crack!
@jaki01 I am amazed by you in the field of chess. I've also never seen a gem you play 30 times you win the game series one time and lose just 19 times
What makes you too liked chess
Do you mean my statistics at lichess.org? Last time I played there was just terrible, lol. I had slept before joining the server and therefore was still 'sleeping' when playing chess, haha. :)
Hehehe asleep because it was too tired maybe.
Get some coffee while you get some coffee-good play chess his not let overslept. And I have also watched. You play chess and some are giving up right
This is a weird and pretty position. I can't find the solution, it's very difficult!
I understand that take on g7 is not good, but i don't know. I'm gonna try later :)
Yes indeed, it is not that easy. But once you'll find the idea it will be no longer that difficult ;-) Keep on trying :-) I will go to sleep now and see tomorrow if you (or others) have found the solution.
Edit: Yes, taking on g7 is not good, you are right.
I found the solution in six moves:
Qe4 c4
f4 c3
f5 gxf5
gxf5 Rxg5
Qh4+ Rh5
Qxh5#
True, that seems to work too. Very good! Now you have to improve your solution by one move :-) Edit: If I remember correctly the solution you found was by coincedence the one I found as well when I saw the study the first time. But it is not the right one. There is a better and prettier one.
I give up! I spent the whole morning trying to find the solution in five moves and I couldn't :(. This is the most difficult position I have seem, amazing...
Thanks a lot for your efforts juanmi96. I will wait a little bit before presenting the solution. Maybe one hint right away: try to understand the function of the pawn on h3 & try to understand the function of the knight on h1 :-)
I knew you would need me, haha. :)
Yepp! :-)
In my opinion the first untukLangkah Qa8 c4 and then for the second step we have to play the third step c3 Bb7 we should also move the Bg2 hxg2 to step into the four of us had to move gxh1Q Kg1 and for the last step so that the opponent loses Qxh1
I am learning a lot from the post you make on chess a big fan of your article and also the post jaki01 makes.... Thanks a lot for writing this @iceblue
You are welcome, thanks for your kind words. Glad that you could learn something from it. I will continue to post similar puzzles in the next time.
