Equilibrium constant and its units:

Equilibrium constant may or may not have units. In the equilibrium expression each figure within a square bracket " [] " represents the concentration in mol per dm cube. The unit of ( k ) therefore depend on the form of equilibrium.

Example #01:

H20 + I20 → 2 k-I

This is an oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction:

2 H0 - 2 e- → 2 HI
(oxidation)

2 I0 + 2 e- → 2 I-I
(reduction)

Example #02:

2 NIIO-II + O20 → 2 NIVO2-II

This is an oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction:

2 NII - 4 e- → 2 NIV
(oxidation)

2 O0 + 4 e- → 2 O-II
(reduction)

what is k:

The units of Equilibrium constant depends upon the the number of moles of products and reactants. Hence again, equilibrium constant have not units.
