What is Plutonium?

in #chemical6 years ago

Plutonium is one of the most radioactive and poisonous substances in the world. It is used for atomic bombs and nuclear power generation.

What is Nuclear Nightmare Plutonium? (Features, Losses)
Plutonium is one of the most toxic, radioactive elements known to be used as raw material for nuclear weapons. It is obtained artificially in nuclear reactors because it is very rare in the country. It was used as a weapon of mass destruction due to its enormous energy potential. The second of the atomic bomb that allowed Japan to withdraw from the Second World War is the plutonium trace. The radioactivity radiated by these bombs has cost millions of lives, have killed millions of people and have led to environmental disasters that can not be compensated. Plutonium is a radioactive element that is produced from uranium and can be used as an alternative to uranium. This is from Planet Pluto. Plutonium was used in the fuel tank of the spacecraft that photographed Pluto. Plutonium, which is the disastrous capacity of mankind when used for evil purposes, can be an energy source for many years.

History
Plutonium was obtained in 1940 by a group of scientists in the atomic accelerator. The atomic accelerator, called the "cyclotron", is produced by the neutron bombardment of the uranium-235 isotope. Berkeley scientists Glenn T. Seaborg, Edward M. McMillan, Josephe W. Kennedy, and Aerthur C Wohl have obtained plutonium bombardment with a 152 centimeter cyclotron of uranium deuterium (alpha core). The team discovered an isotope Uranium-238 and a Neptunium-238 isotope in a device that produced two free neutrons and plutonium by bombarding it with deuterum. Neptunium-238 was later converted to Plutonium-238 by beta decay. This experiment was not shared with the scientific world until 1946. The word "Plutonium" was derived from the planet Pluto. English is "plutonium".

Physical and chemical properties
The chemical symbol of plutonium is "Pu". Atomic number 94, atomic weight 244, density 19.81 gcm3. The melting point is 640 degrees, the boiling point is 3228 degrees. Actinides in the 3-B group of the periodic table are in the element series. The crystal structure is monoclinic ie single curvature. It is a solid metal in silver color. In terms of physical properties, most nickel is the most similar metals. Plutonium is called "alpha form" at room temperature.

Plutonium is fragile, does not transmit heat and electricity. the number of electrons in the plutonium outer shell changes constantly and does not match with the other electrons because their electrons are never aligned to the magnetic field. For this reason the plutonium is not magnetic and does not hold onto any magnet. When plutonium is heated or fed by electric current, it spreads and shrinks more than other elements.
