Chelsea unveil 1980's-inspired Nike 2018-19 home kit

Chelsea briefly teased the unveil of the new (home) kit prior to yesterday’s annual awards dinner, and sure enough, this morning they were officially released into the wild, even though they were spotted there several times over the course of the past few weeks and spoiled even as far back as November. But that’s just how it goes these days.

As expected, the 2018-19 home kit is a slightly more adventurous effort from Nike after their debut last season with a simple yet ultimately gorgeous basic blue design. That design was inspired by the classic kits of the 1970s, including the fantastic shade of blue. That color is kept for next season’s, but a few 80s-style flourishes have been added with the red and white asymmetric half-stripes.

As usual, blue shorts and white socks (with a blue and red trim) complete the look.

The new kit will be first worn on Sunday, in the final match of the season, as per standard practice. The away kit is likely to be yellow, with a third in a very odd/light shade of blue to follow after that as well (probably).

Thoughts?

Unlike last year’s, a fair bit less fanfare has accompanied these shirts, but here are a few more pictures, as modeled by Eden Hazard, Willian, and Fran Kirby. (Hopefully Trevoh Chalobah, seen in the group shot above, doesn’t end up leaving on a transfer like his brother did soon after last year’s kit reveal!)
