Give Love and Share Kindness “Outreach at Iba Elementary School” (Hygiene Kits, Flip-Flops, Drawing Books Distribution and Values Formation)
Hi steemians. Today is my 30 days in steemit. Allow me to share with you a life altering story that gave meaning and purpose of my life. This story is also similar to steemit for the reason it change my life in a positive way. And I am grateful and honored to be part of this loving and caring community. I hope in some way this story touch your lives same as mine.
Sweetest Smile of a Child - Priceless Gift
One of the many outskirt schools in Cagayan de oro city is Iba Elementary School. It is found at the upper area of Barangay Dansolihon. Barangay Dansolihon is one the rural barangays of Cagayan de Oro City. Barangay Dansolihon is the second to the last barangay of Cagayan de oro city near the boundary line of the province of Bukidnon which is the entry point of the Municipality of Talakag. Majority of the settlers in Barangay Dansolihon are farmers. And farmers are known as marginalize sector groups of our society. And most of their children are deprive from basic needs. They have limited access to social services primarily health, education, food, and others.
With this concerns at hands a group of young volunteers initiated a movement to minimize the current problem of the barangay. With our little resources we focus our attention with the children and their respective schools. So we gathered up some toothpaste, shampoos, toothbrush, and soap for the hygiene kits. We also decided to provide flip flops or slippers to the children for it is their main transportation heading to their respective school. So we solicited to several of our close friends, relatives and family in order to raise the much needed fund for the slippers.
One volunteer suggested to offer a drawing book to the kids for the reason most of the kids love arts. And the group decided to sort out possible means to generate the numbers of drawing book needed for the kids of iba. When everything is ready. We coordinate with the principal of the school and seek partnership with the local barangay for courtesy call process.
The following day we transported all the little gifts we have for the children. We traveled from the city to the barangay dansolihon for almost an hour. The road was rough and rocky. Making it difficult for normal vehicles to ascend the outskirt community. After struggling road trip we arrived at the school. As soon as we hit the classrooms, each volunteer initiated carrying out all the goods, settling all the kids in their respective seats and conduct a short getting to know each other. We started our values formation as a simple way of imparting knowledge and lessons to the kids. They were very attentive and interactive. Making the learning process rewarding and fulfilling in both side. Shortly we started distributing the drawing books and then next is the hygiene kits. As soon as they receive their simple gifts they never failed to give us their sweet and sincere smile with a heart melting thank you enclose with it.
Conducted a Film Showing for the Values Formation Activity - The kids are all attentive and focus as they are viewing a animated short story.
Shortly after the film viewing the kids were rewarded with Drawing Books.
After a few minutes we decided to distributed hygiene kits to the kids and one of them ask if they can eat it (It gave us an idea to orient the kids about the usage of hygiene kits and its benefits. This idea hinted us to conduct a basic health awareness to our next outreach)
After the distribution we give some biscuits and juice for the kids for their snacks. After the short break we called the kids to go outside so we can start giving them their slippers. Everyone was very excited they never expect they will be receive another gift and for them it was one of the best gift they have receive. Each child gave their sweetest smile as they claim their treats. And they never failed to give us their touching thank you with a hug and kiss. We ended our gift giving fulfilled and happy. No words could express how happy we are as well to give simple happiness to the children of iba elementary school.
Children are excited to receive their slippers. No heat could contain their happiness.

Volunteers tireless dedicate their time serving the kids even under the heat of the sun.

We learned that we cannot help everyone but at least we can help someone. We realized that we cannot touch everyone lives but we can touch one soul. This is a life changing experience to all of us.
