Life without shoes!!!

in #charity7 years ago

This story is from southern parts of Nepal, commonly known as "Terai" region. Here the geographical train is plain with huge river basins pron to floods. Last years flood claimed 123 lives and 7 million dollars of property loss. This disaster is reoccurring every year but still people in the rural areas are not aware of the precaution measures to be taken to avoid the disasters. Due to poor economy, people are bounded within limited boundaries too.

One of these boundaries is a common problem of people getting bite by poisonous snakes. Kids who generally walk to school bare footed no matter how far. They are most pron to snake bites.
Due to poverty and lack of awareness towards education, people do not have priority for child's education. Once the child is grown enough to do physical labor, generally 10 to 12 years of age, they have to contribute for earning for their family. In this process of earning child is totally diverted from a track which might have let them to a far brighter future.

Do you guys know why and how do they enter school despite of having no priority for education in society?
Education in government schools of Nepal are free of cost. And the plus point is, schools provide free lunch to students from play group till grade 5th.

This free lunch is the major factor for attracting kids to the school. Parents who are struggling from their current situations send their kids to school just because they aren't capable for feeding them. It also eases off the burden of expenditure for them. This is how students are gathered in schools and get used to it.

Now from a kid's point of view. They go to school to avoid hard labor which they have to do if they stay at home. From washing cloths and dishes to fetching firewood and fodder for castles.

If I go on with the problems from ground level, this post might be too lengthy.
