In the Holiday Spirit: Team Steemit on Kiva.org
Hello all!
I hope you all are doing fine, whether you recognise any end-of-December holidays or not, and whether you celebrate any of them or not. I also hope that you didn’t let yourself be affected by holiday anxiety and holidays-induced stress and that you won’t fall into a post-holidays depression a week or two from now.

But my biggest hope is that you got somewhat affected by the true spirit of this holiday season: namely generosity, forgiveness, charity, and sympathy. It is in this spirit that I got inspired to write this post.

The very first post I made upon joining Steemit was about my experiences as a Kiva Field Fellow in Tajikistan. Later I was fortunate to come across @stephen-somers’ excellent series of posts about Kiva. That encounter led to an idea that led to a practical collaboration: a creation (by @stephen-somers), on December 17th, of Team Steemit on Kiva.org:
We hope to use this lending team to raise awareness on STEEM and Steemit among Kiva lenders – and vice-versa: to recruit more Steemians to Kiva.org We have a unique advantage, as Steemians: by creating interesting and unique content on Steem we can get paid with Steem and SBD and – potentially – use part of these earnings to lend on Kiva.org to projects, entrepreneurs and community groups that you yourself choose to support.
Just to make things very clear: it’s NOT a donation! Not a hand-out, but a hand up. You will get your lent amount repaid to you, interest-free, by the end of the loan term (and, hopefully, the project’s successful implementation). Our lending team, Team Steemit, can be the first on Kiva.org – heck, the very first in the entire world! – to use this new amazing cryptocurrency, STEEM, to empower entrepreneurs all over the world. Both in developing countries and – yes, in American inner cities too.
What you can do: head to Kiva.org and register on the website and on Teem Steemit. Choose a loan that appeals to you for whatever reasons. Use some of your hard-earned STEEM and SBD to fund the loan with an amount you can afford, starting with $25. Sit back, wait for the regular repayments of your loan. Rinse and repeat (or withdraw the money to your PayPal account, if you happen to need it).
In the true Holiday Spirit, let’s make someone’s dream a reality today on Kiva.org with Teem Steemit!

My personal commitment is to use all of the SBD earnings from this post’s payout towards my next loan on Kiva. In the name of Team Steemit, of course.

Awesome!! Welcome to the team! :D And congratulations on your very first Kiva loan! By the way, my first loan was to a lender in Peru too. :)
