Donating to Dorian disaster charity. All liquid Steem of this post will be donated

in #charity5 years ago (edited)

We all have seen hurricane Dorian images over the last couple of days passing by, with especially Abaco island of the Bahamas being entirely wiped out, leaving it totally inhabitable. This post is to make you aware that these places need help, anything that you can miss and giving you suggestions on where to donate.

There is no way this mess can get cleaned up by itself, especially with the problems now of having no electricity (which will most likely stay down for months), running water, outbreak of infections (because that is what happens with malnutrician and not proper sanitary measures). This has to be centrally organized

Really, check of what these people have been through

What I saw from my hurricane Irma experience is that getting help wasn't as easy as we all thought. Small initiatives were unfolding from all over the world, which was totally awesome, but this wasn't the stage on where this was needed. There is a difference between the first urgent care, and then later on is the replacement of everything that is wrecked.

Urgent care: drinking water, canned food, medication, baby food clothes

Later on care: Wood, bolts, furniture, zink for roofs

What you need in this urgent phase is centrally organized care!

I know, I know..We blockchain people hate the world centralized but realistically this is what the Bahamas need. Bigger organisations who land there with people who know what to do, and have the equipment. They reach fast, have big ships or planes to take stuff on board. It is not the way we like it with our DIY mentality, but this is the current situation.

With hurricane Irma I saw that a lot of the locally organized charities abroad had their containers stranded in other ports by customs or burocracy sometimes for months, not reaching their goal when it was actually needed. The only help that reached us fast was the military help, the Samaritans Purse, and the Red Cross. So these are the ones that I will be mentioning below.

Samaritans Purse

While on Sint Martin with hurricane Irma, this was the first help that landed on the cleaned airstrip. A Christian organisation (Im not religious at all, but these guys just do awesome relief work) who are always ready to take off and give aid. What I say, not everybody is so exited about religious work, but I really find that that doesn't matter in these cases. It is about that people are being helped, and I know from my own experience with them that they deliver. And fast.

I donated to them yesterday online and this was a breeze. Literally in 1 minute my donation was made. With creditcard, E-check or Paypal your options are there. On www.samaritanspurse.org or the direct link https://www.samaritanspurse.org/our-ministry/hurricane-dorian-relief/#

Red Cross

Now the Red Cross hasn't always been too good in the news as we know, but again: They Deliver. Also from my personal experience with Irma I and so many others lived off of Red Cross food in the hospital, that we can not ignore that they do what they are supposed to do. They get supplies to where it is needed, and they have the equipment and the people for exactly that

On www.redcross.org you have a direct page to make donations from. You can do this with credicard and paypal and even decide if you want his to be to Dorian relief, or relief around the world in general.

Maybe this is closer to me because I myself was dependent on this kind of help 2 years ago, and I can tell you. It is something you will not wish to anybody. That is why I am urging you to find if you have a couple of bucks to spare to donate. If you don't know how? Maybe give me a hit on Discord, same username, so I can help you make it happen. In the mean time I hope we raise awareness to this, you can help as well by giving it a Resteem or an upvote. We have the ability to make money online, let us use it for the world. Your vote can make people have clean drinking water or a warm meal. It's not for me. It's for the Bahamas. All liquid Steem from this post will be donated as well
