The Pineapple fund has donated $5 million to a basic income experiment in Kenya
Two weeks ago someone on Reddit made a post announcing that he will be donating 5057 BTC to charity, the post can be found here. When Bitcoin was worth ~$17,500 that was around $86 million the anonymous donator had commited to giving away to charity and to this day over $15 million has been given away. The user mentioned that he has invested in BTC very early and that his goals in life are not about being mega rich even though he now has more money than he can spend and that's why he wanted to make a change in the world and donate it and is accepting suggestions on where to direct his donations to. If you have any good suggestions in mind feel free to go to https://pineapplefund.org/ and fill in the form.
Today in a top post on r/worldnews an article made headlines with the Pineapple fund having donated $5 million to basic income to GiveDirectly, an organization that is currently running the largest basic income experiment in history across dozens of villages in rural Kenya. The Pineapple fund Reddit account posted the news on a basic income subreddit a day ago, the thread can be found here if you want to read more about it. GiveDirectly announced that they will split the money between its core model of issuing lump-sum cash transfers and the 12-year basic income experiment.
GiveDirectly has only been running it's basic income experiment for a full month and it has already showed very promising effects. The people have said that the help has been life-changing and they have noticed productivity go up by a lot.

I am personally glad to see profits through cryptocurrencies by early adopters being used in this game-changing way and it will surely set for a much brighter future for all developing countries in the world. This is something that interested me the most in blockchain technology in the beginning when I was researching it - the way we can transfer value without borders and fees to re-balance the value in the world. I am very much looking forward to our own platform Steem becoming a leading technology in the aspect of charity and being able to aid people in need all over the world.
Steem already has a big role in countries with an imbalanced wage-gap even though we still are a pretty small community compared to many others.
Have you heard of this charity yet?
How do you see the Steem currency being able to change the world for the better?
Steem can and most probably will change the world especially in the developing and under developed countries.
There are a lot of unemployed educated youth in India who can benefit from steemit. The average income of an Indian is around 4.6$ per day, so if someone from India writes a post daily and he gets atleast 5$ he is already above average. The only thing stopping this is the awareness about steemit which is increasing day by day.
Same thing can be applied to other third world countries.
I'm from India too bro. And just came to know about this revolutionary idea of steeming. People all around the world will be so blessed with this noble cause of letting people do what they love and make a living with that.
I agree, with social communities around steem is opening a chamber to give light on stories from third world countries.
This is my favourite part. It incentivizes people to hone their creation abilities and pays well for people in developing countries. This quality of life increase that can come from being great at curating and producing quality content is a strong skill to develop and being paid out to do so is a great way to ease the barrier of entry into investing with Cryptocurrencies! Steem is great to foster growth in developing communities. That's what has me investing time (and soon $) into this.
That's and interesting idea you can make profits with bitcoin and try to create small bussines to support people i mean i'm from colombia and i would like in any moment use the money made by btc and alts to create a small company to plant coffee and sugar cane. Regards
@acidyo Maaaan whole lot of money! God bless the guy! I love such people. Steemit's potential for growth will help build a better world, it already has and definitely will continue to change people's lives. HODL and share the love! I will go there and suggest him to donate thousands of Steemit accounts to poor countries!
There is a prime example of how cryptocurrency can overcome many wrongs in the world. If more people with the means to do so only would (instead of hanging onto the power factor) the world would be a much better place for us all.
This is very great from The Pineapple fund. People in main stream media wont show all but will show all the other misuse of BTC.
Wow, that's so amazing. My joy is not just that he gave to charity, but that he did that through crypto currencies. This same crypto that the big banks and governments tried to stop. Very simple and ordinary people have now been empowered to change the world through crypto.
This is amazing! There's a lot of suffering in the world everywhere, but your donation is going to help thousands of the poorest people get the basic needs they deserve.
The average payment is $1,000 per family, or $1,100 of donations given 9-10% overhead. So this should help 5,000 families.
Very nice!
5057 BTC to charity :O
I mean this is something, thumbs up to this guy and his generosity.
I have no words for him.
I am also very glad to see, that many people also care about others not only themselves. We have 2 economies, very rich and those who live paycheck to paycheck( around 75% of US citizens ) and this is a big problem. Steemit already changes the world for the better, specially in Third World Countries. As this community becomes bigger and bigger, this will impact the world for the better even more.
To be honest that is a quite fascinating way to help people in need
