How Elon Musk Is Changing The World
Every once in a while, there comes onto the world stage, a person who changes everything for the entirely of humanity. He or she is often identified as a visionary and rightly so, because they work for the future.
Throughout our human history, we have had many visionaries who single handedly propelled the world forward much further than it would have been without them and we owe our modern lives today to those men and women.
There are many visionaries who are doing the same, trying to create a better world for everyone by introducing revolutionary new ways of doing things and inspiring to get rid of the old, obsolete ones.
One such visionary is Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, CEO of Tesla, Chairman of SolarCity, Co-chairman of OpenAI and someone who is referred to as the real life Iron Man by the popular media. Let’s take a look at how he is changing the world.
1. Autonomous Cars
If you had told me just 5 years ago that in 2016, we will see a self-driving car that will take you to any location you tell it to, I would probably have disagreed with you and yet that has already become a reality.
The autonomous car revolution has been led largely by Elon Musk and his company, Tesla. While other companies were still testing their technology, Tesla cars had already got this ability which left people in a delightful shock.
Of course, he didn’t do it alone and of course the majority of the work was probably done by engineers and software developers but a visionary like Musk is very much necessary at the helm to get things moving and moving fast.
Today, Tesla self-driving cars have driven well over 200 million miles and have in some cases saved lives where a human behind the wheel might not have been able to. Musk also claims that he will deliver fully autonomous cars by the end of 2017. One day, driving will have been a thing of the past.
2. Mass Adoption of Solar Power
There is no denying the damage we have done to the environment through our unchecked use of fossil fuels. It has resulted in global warming, climate change and everyone’s worried about the polar ice caps melting.
This has largely been the result of not using clean energy sources though we have had the technology for quite some time. The major oil and energy corporations are to blame of course, but now, things might be changing.
Elon Musk, as chairman of SolarCity, is helping to bring affordable solar power to the masses. Till now, solar power used to cost a lot but thanks to technological advancements in the field and mass production of solar systems, solar power is now cheaper than fossil fuels.
SolarCity offers solar roof (in the photo above), Powerwall (to collect the solar power and help you live off the grid), and affordable solar panels, so that we can utilise the biggest energy source of the Earth i.e. the Sun.
3. Hyperloop
Ever saw people in sci-fi movies and got jealous of their super high speed transportation system? Not anymore! If Elon Musk’s concept becomes reality, which by the looks of it, surely will, we are in for super high speed travel.
The Hyperloop concept consists of a network of partial-vacuum tubes inside which, pods, carrying passengers will move at almost supersonic speeds, which means you would be travelling faster than an airplane but on the ground level.
The pods in the tubes would be accelerated by magnets along the length of the tubes and they will also be cushioned by air from every direction, so you won’t even feel like you are moving at such a high speed. Comfort and speed!
So, the distance you can travel in 6 hours in your car would be covered by the Hyperloop in just 30 minutes. What is more exciting is that Elon Musk has open sourced this concept and people from all over the world are working to be the first to bring it to reality. In fact Dubai is eyeing a 2020 launch of the world’s first Hyperloop.
4. Space Endeavours
This one is really huge. Musk believes that humanity should build a second home as soon as possible. This is because we might never know when the next extinction phase is going to happen. We miss asteroids all the time which just miss the Earth.
He has chosen Mars as our next home and is spearheading an effort to colonise it and establish a self sustaining human population on it within the 21st century. The first manned missions are planned in the 2020s. This goal in itself is beyond visionary. It’s simply something else.
He is also involved in efforts to reduce the cost to travel to space from 30-75%, which will be an impressive feat in itself. This will help with one more of his “space” related plans which is to make space tourism a reality.
He truly believes that it is time we start the process of expansion into the cosmos and it should be something that is accessible to all humans just like how travel is on Earth.
5. There's More!
Apart from all this, he is also involved with OpenAI which is a non-profit company established to create a friendly AI which will help mankind in unimaginable ways. Since Musk is concerned that we may end up creating a malevolent AI, he is making sure that nothing as such happens with his involvement in the company.
A more revolutionary thing that Elon Musk has just recently revealed is Neuralink which is a venture to merge the human brain with AI which I have written about here.
All this led by one man and his several dedicated teams. That’s what a visionary can do. I hope we get many more visionaries like him and I also hope that we can all strive to be a visionary and play our part in moving the world forward and leaving a legacy behind.

Two things I try to do on Steemit with varying degrees of success: Just focus on what I agree with and avoid disagreement, and keep my comments short with one picture.
This comment is going to make me fail at those two aims horribly. So first I’ll say great post, really well presented, I enjoyed it and upvoted it.
BUT… OK here’s where I start bleating…
Firstly oil is not a fossil fuel. Coal is fossilized oil, but oil is abiotic. Covering up that fact with the fossil fuel scam is one of the biggest cons of the past century. http://www.frot.co.nz/design/sift/peak-oil/
Secondly “global warming” is another giant con-job - http://www.frot.co.nz/design/sift/global-warming/
Thirdly man never made it to the moon and certainly won’t be going to mars - http://www.frot.co.nz/design/sift/conspiracies/
I’ll stop now and won’t get into the false information about solar power, whether Elon Musk is really a con artist, or how many years you could run a regular car for with the price of a Tesla car, but it’s safe to say I could go on a bit! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2016/04/06/dont-be-fooled---elon-musks-electric-cars-arent-about-to-save-th/
Think I feel a post coming on, but I suspect it may not pick up as many votes as this one...
Breaking your rules didn't come out bad afterall!
Everyone has their own opinion and that is totally fine :)
Thanks for reading!
Most people aren't aware of the issues facing hyperloop, so allow me to explain why many engineers think it will never happen.
The reason why Hyperloop would be able to travel as fast as they say is because the tube itself would be turned into a giant vacuum, reducing the resistance on the train. In fact Doctor Phil Mason once said that Hyperloop, “might be better described as all the problems of space travel while traveling in a gun barrel at the speed of sound". In fact, there are a ton of problems with even building it. First of all, the air pump required to pump the air out of the Hyperloop would have to pump out 2 million cubic meters of air. To put that in perspective, the world's most powerful air pump only does about 1.5% of that.
That isn't taking into account the logistics of building something that would be dangerous not just to passengers but because he wants to build it along the freeways, dangerous to everyone for miles if there is even a small breach. Imagine an explosion where the bomb was stretched from Seattle to Portland, and even a small malfunction created an unstoppable chain-reaction that set it off, spreading at the speed of sound.
There are a slew of other issues, such as expansion of heat and cold, but you get the idea. The Hyperloop is a (excuse the pun) pipe dream.
Yes, those are all valid concerns and I have read about them too. That is why I think it was important for him to open source the plans for HyperLoop. Even if this turns out to be a failure, maybe something else will come of it. We never know how science and technology can advance. A lot of things happen by accident.
P.S. Loved the pun....LOL! :D :D
Cars are a waste and an horror to our planet. But you filthy little humans like to sit inside a box, and the fact that it can 'drive itself' seems to be the ultimate proof that we finally entered the 3rd millenium. So here we go, 200 upvotes.
Cars should be banned and we should develop other means of transportation that are more efficient and doesn't require thousands of dollars of raw materials for each individual.
Please think about the planet. Cars are a shit transportation system.
Reality! The ozone layer has got a hole!
Matter Transporters?
Elon musk is one of my favorite Entrepreneurs. Can't wait till Hyperloop gets built everywhere.
Hyperloop is the project I'm most interested in.
Same here... and Space X
Me too. Think this should have a bigger impact then the rest not that the rest is less impactful
Yeah, hyperloop and space X are the coolest ones :D
Yeah, mine too! If all his undertakings are successful, we will have a very different world in just 10 years time.
This is not really related but I first heard about simulation theory when an audience member, at a panel which Elon was a guest, asked if he was a believer. That sent me down a rabbit hole and is still blowing my mind.
Yes, Musk has openly stated that he believes we live in a simulation. In fact many scientists in the world think that we live in a Matrix of sorts which could very well be true. I guess we will know when we will have the means to test it.

Great post @sauravrungta, keep in mind there are lower payouts for the next month due to the system update. May 1st everything should be back to 100%.
Thank you so much! :)
Yeah, that seems like a long time to recharge the pool but I guess it's ok. We can post for fun :D
Yeah this is only a one time thing so no need to worry. Just curious, how are you cashing out your STEEM over there in India? Do you have a Bitcoin debit card or ATM? - What service do you use to get from STEEM to INR?
No, I don't think there is a Bitcoin debit card or ATM for bitcoin in India.
I use an exchange called Coinsecure.in which allows me to convert BTC to INR. We can then withdraw the INR to our bank accounts.
Interesting. I think BTC ATMs would do well if placed in the correct areas around India. The service is very handy imo. - Looking forward to your next post @sauravrungta. Cheers
My brother really likes Elon Musk! I can't say as I follow his work closely, but I like what I've seen so far!
Yes, Elon Musk is one of the few visionaries we have that are actually bringing a change in the world!
Thanks for reading :)

Looks like the Youtube link is broken. Anyways, I think he is a visionary and his approach to AI is really what it should be.
Thank you for posting! I'm such a wannabe futurist, it hurts.
haha me too :D
Yes solar power, my favourite. Nice ! :)
Yes, and Space X too :D
