SOCIAL VICES; PRIDE OF NIGERIAN YOUTH

"Vices are corruption, and corruption is not Virtue." The soup in which our dear society in Nigeria, who had chosen vices to be their soaring pride has become deliciously tasteless to our precious taste. To be simple and precise, literally, vice is a practice, behavior or any such of habit that is generally considered to be immoral, sinful, criminal, rude, taboo, depraved or degrading in any associated society. In minor usage, vice can also be point as any fault of negative character, trait a defect and infirmity of a bad or unhealthy habit.

   The taste of vices taken to be a pride among our youth have been seriously tasteless to our collective goals and vision. To be candid, no one shall chose any form of madness or corrupt manners to be his/her own pride. Justifying vices to be the pride of our youth could be little oxymoron in nature, but with constructive analysis and understanding, we could de-code it is nothing but the truth.

 Transgression of social vices in human characters can be in activities of both profitable and nonprofitable ventures like prostitution, gambling, excessive alcoholic and smoking, rudely behavior, theft, examination malpractice, disbelief in one's self and so many more. All these stated above can be categories under the poisonous word CORRUPTION, corruption is a vice not a virtue.

 
 Stylistically, people who engage in vices have chosen it to be pride that is killing them and the society at large. How have we been using vices to be our pride? Little far back around 80's and 90's, History and research made us to be enlightened enough that people who participate in different such of vices made it hidden and secret for people not to be aware of their immorality. The verse is the case since the large take over of computer age among youth of today, vices are no more secret or hidden behavior, vices like prostitution, gambling, rape, excessive alcoholic, immoral dressing among ladies and so much more are now something of pride.  Pride is said to be the state of being proud of one's conceit without being shameful of it. Bias apart, the rate in which youth expose and demonstrate different vices in our society has already been taken to be pride. Why would immortality be someone pride? 

   War could be battle with weapons but bad ideology needs consultation and advice. Widely said in different seminars and articles to identifying causes of vices, it has been out listed that peer group, parent negligence, unemployment, bad government and low education which I all categorized under the word POVERTY have been said to be key causes of social vices. I agreed on the note widely said, but I do say; just as death is a must for everyone, it is as sure that government can not provide or cater for all citizens needs. We have our individual roles to play to ourselves and the society. Vices are madness, while madness isn't the solution to government or environmental shortcomings. 


Blaming government for some or many sections may be essential and rightly for us, but we cannot blame government for losing our own manners and morality to vices. Rape, prostitute, kidnapping, terrorism or immoral dressing shall be the agent to make us unique? No! They can only make us more worse. 

If largely we can reflect our ideology and mindset that not all aspect of our life government could touch, then we can individually or collectively start to making impact on how we can turn our different abilities to goals achieved. People who shall arose to angriness if called insane should never near any form of vices to be their pride.

    In summary, vices among youth in Nigeria are caused mostly by parental negligence, undetermined vision and largely poverty. To get rid of poverty isn't by engaging in vices but by engaging in productivity and self determination. 

This article shall be incomplete if I fail to urge government strength to some basic solution to reduce or eradicate vices among youth. Our quota may not give chance to let everyone of us work in ministries or government offices, but government can reform our educational system from fully how to read and write alone but how to have or belong to one materialism aspect that could result to productivity. Where ever imbalance of class among rich and poor is very high, vices result to the next action.

  This is a clarion call to awake each mindset of our youth to productivity and determination to keep away from vices because it is never too late to be victorious. Indulging vices in our society is a gradual poison to our body which shall kill us with process, problem shouldn't be the agent to solve problem. 

 Arise and say NO to immorality because immorality is CORRUPTION, corruption is a VICE not a VIRTUE. Vice is not our PRIDE.
