Champagne 🍾🥂
Champagne
The end of year celebrations is fast approaching and the meals that accompany them too. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Eve.
All these meals generally start with appetizers (zakouskis) and these are accompanied by a good glass of champagne.
Ah champagne, I love it! It's fresh, it's bubbly, a little sweet but not too much, personally, I prefer the crude to the dry half. And if it's pink it's not bad either.
I remember the birth of my first son, my husband had bought a lot of bottles of Veuve Clicquot and as I was breastfeeding and that moreover, I had to have a cesarean emergency, I could not even drink a sip …
When I'm at a friend's house or at a party, I drink only an aperitif, I do not particularly enjoy the wine during the meal and moreover, since I do not drink much I am quickly drunk and as my children are still small, I have to stay operational to take care of them; o)
I can drink wine occasionally but my favorite is champagne or sparkling wine, Spanish cava or Italian prosecco depending on budgets.
History of champagne
At first, the Champagne region was known for its wool trade and its land was not suitable for producing good wines. The wines produced there were generally offered to the buyers of wool as a thank you.
Then the Benedictine monks, who needed money to maintain their monasteries, began to improve the quality of the wines of the Region to try to sell them.
We do not know exactly who invented champagne because it is not the result of research, bubbles form naturally under certain circumstances.
The champagne began to be really known and appealing when the wool producers who received a lot of champagne orders from their customers dropped out of the wool business and went into the champagne business, which was much more lucrative.
The champagne started to have a reputation for luxury, modernity and good taste. It was also served aboard the Titanic where everything inside this liner reflected luxury and beauty.
It was also used during the presentation of the Eiffel Tower at the World Fair in Paris in 1889.
