The basic skills of engineering drawing have been the foundation on which modern Computer-Aided Design skills are built. Programmes like AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, Cadwork, or Revit have their structure, principles and terminology built on Engineering drawing. On this note, though the skill has moved from the traditional paper and drawing board to laptop screens, the basic knowledge of engineering drawing is still a very useful skill.
Local engineering departments still have the traditional engineering drawing as part of their curriculum. Besides creating a solid foundation for learning and understanding CAD software, the knowledge of engineering drawing builds our problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
For a product designer, innovator and developer, Engendering drawing skills is paramount.

This skill requires hands-on practical training and a mastery of drawing tools and techniques. Besides a drawing sheet and pencil, participants will need a mathematical set and the readiness to learn.

Among the few things that are beyond the capability of AI is presenting a step-by-step development of a pencil work on paper. Participants will be required to show proof of work, authenticity and originality.

Content to be covered during the six weeks of training.

Week 1: Introduction to Engineering Drawing

1. Introduction to Engineering Drawing
2. Importance of Engineering Drawing
3. Basic drawing tools and equipment
4. Basic line types and conventions
5. Bisecting lines and angles

Week 2: Orthographic Projection Fundamentals

1. Introduction to orthographic projection
2. Understanding first-angle and third-angle projections
3. Drawing orthographic views (front, top, side)
4. Practice exercises: drawing simple objects using orthographic projection
5. Introduction to dimensioning and scaling

Week 3: Orthographic Projection Applications

1. Drawing orthographic views of complex objects
2. Understanding and drawing different types of lines (hidden, centre, etc.)
3. Practice exercises: drawing orthographic views of various objects
4. Introduction to section views and auxiliary views

Week 4: Isometric Drawing Fundamentals

1. Introduction to isometric drawing
2. Understanding isometric axes and angles
3. Drawing isometric views
4. Practice exercises: drawing simple objects using isometric drawing
5. Introduction to isometric dimensioning and scaling

Week 5: Isometric Drawing Applications

1. Drawing isometric views of complex objects
2. Understanding and drawing different types of isometric lines (hidden, centre, etc.)
3. Practice exercises: drawing isometric views of various objects
4. Introduction to isometric section views and auxiliary views

Week 6: Advanced Isometric Drawing and Final Project

1. Advanced isometric drawing techniques
2. Drawing complex isometric views with multiple components
3. Practice exercises: drawing advanced isometric views
4. Final project: creating a complete isometric drawing with dimensions and scaling

This expanded course is intended to provide all participants with a comprehensive introduction to orthographic and isometric drawing, covering fundamental concepts and applications,

Participants will be scored based on the task completed, adherence to instructions, creativity and overall presentation. Only personally created materials will be allowed without room for sourcing. I will evaluate content using AI detection tools and plagiarism detectors

I will endeavour to inspire real engagement among the participants by getting them involved and collaborating.
