Supporting ChainBB: "Donating" Without Donating
3 days ago I got excited to start seeing entries like this in my wallet:

If you're not aware, the STEEM blockchain has multiple browsers including steemd.com, steemit.com, busy.org, and beta.chainbb.com. ChainBB is @jesta's forum project, and it's fantastic. The coolest thing about the set up is you can support the project just by posting there.
That's it.
You don't have to donate money like a Patreon account, you just use it and 15% of the author rewards automatically go towards funding the project.
I was curious to see if my posts have helped at all, so I parsed all those cryptic-looking wallet messages to get this:

A VEST is an internal representation of vested STEEM (Steem Power) which is represented by a ratio that changes over time. It's currently at 1,000,000 VESTS = 482.669 STEEM.
Just by posting and commenting using ChainBB, I was able to donate 189418.0407 VESTS to the ChainBB project. That comes out to (482.669 / 1,000,000) * 189418.0407 = 91.4262163 STEEM!
At the current prices, that's $113.36 in just three days!
That's awesome!
I hope more of you will check out ChainBB and consider posting there to support the project. Imagine what this could do for STEEM if this project is richly rewarded, setting an example of what's possible for other platform developers who need a mechanism to fund their projects.

That's great to see all that Steem going to help out @jesta and ChainBB. I've been posting on ChainBB exclusively now for a week and I like it so far. I wish I could figure out those Vested Steem figures like you did to see what it comes out to from my posts too. I know it'd be from your figure, but it is something nonetheless going to a more than worthy project :)
I just ran through it for you and came up with 13548.79078 VESTS. That's 6.539581298 STEEM, so about $8.10. Pretty cool!
All I did was copy your wallet page output to Sublime Text, search for "VESTS", then copy all that data into a spreadsheet, split to columns on the space and add up the numbers.
Wow, that was quick dude, and thanks for explaining the process to get to that number @lukestokes, I'll have to see if I can figure it out on my own now :)
That ~$8.10 is a bit more than I thought it would be, so I'm pleased with that. I know every bit of Steem can help to get something rolling in the right direction, so that's really cool!
I need to remember to post from there (chainBB); it is a worthy project and looks to be a fine front-end to the blockchain
It's just building a habit that is hard when Steemit is so convenient
@stevescoins , It's a great option for posting, and while I can understand it's not a preferred style for many, it does give an additional way to interact with the Steem blockchain. Habits are hard to break at times, agreed :)
Also, we have several front-end apps being developed, so folks may settle down with one app

And that's the beauty of it, with a few different options, we can all settle on a preferred app, and can always default to a different one if we need to, because of a certain situation or just forgetting LOL

Supporting the developers is important. A vibrant developer team is the future for the platform. @jesta and @good-karma are the ones I've given most attention since they are good at telling what they do.

I have been trying to actively use ChainBB to support the project, but it would be great if a donation STEEM account was set up for the project. I know that I would not be the only one to make a contribution!
How do you calculate vests @lukestokes ?
You can use the sp_to_vests() function in the steem-python module (http://steem.readthedocs.io/en/latest/tools.html#steem.converter.Converter.sp_to_vests) to calculate how many VESTS you have from the amount of STEEM POWER you have. Otherwise, 1 MVEST (1 million VESTS) = 482.692 STEEM POWER (per steemdb.com), so 1 VEST = 0.000482692 STEEM POWER.
There's no doubt that ChainBB is an amazing and useful dapp of the Steem blockchain. There's no other rewarding forum hosts out there that I know of other than this and I think every forum post out there may it be about games, lifestyle, money, etc., deserve some payment because each is valuable.
Everyone's thoughts and responses to others is valuable and ChainBB will successfully make a representation of those values through STEEM.
Well said. It could be huge, as some have said, bigger than Steemit.
At the same time, that's what's so incredible about this system. If any one of them (busy, steemit, chainbb, or something in the future) goes big, the others will also benefit from that user activity and content. Everyone wins.
