Can you create an ICO forum or category? Bootstrapping a new area for all of Steem

in #chainbb-suggestions7 years ago

I want something such that people can tag an article "ICO-Research" first and then it shows up under ChainBB cleanly. Is this doable? What about having it so posts are ranked by upvotes (or by $ earned) and not by recency? Is that doable? Do you see where I'm going with this?

My idea is to bootstrap quality ICO research articles on Steem by means of ChainBB and my Steem power's curation abilities.

I have enough that 1 upvote from me is $100, so I could rank ICO research by quality and guarantee a $25 vote for any research that meets a minimum quality threshold and see what people bring to Steem. Perhaps we can make Steem the goto destination for quality ICO research. It would be a win for Steem, but also a win for crypto because the state of ICO due diligence remains abysmal.

Let me know!

This is my second post using ChainBB!

Cool idea. We should take every opportunity to become de-facto platform for discussions in crypto. This is our natural target market.

Very good idea, I like it. This will add value to steemit. Hope it will be done well.

It is, though it feels like a very specific topic. What about just a generic ICO forum? That seems to be a bit more broad and potentially house more topics. Promoting only specific posts within a tag seems more like the steemit interface rather than chainBB.

It is doable, but not a high priority right now. I'm still very focused on the forum format which is based on bumping posts via the last reply time.

Curation doesn't really play into chainBB - I think that's where the UX confusion around all of this comes from. Discussions should be bumped because they're being discussed - not because people with large wallets want it to be.

Overall I think what you're really looking for is the upcoming communities feature that steemit is working on. It sounds exactly like what they're building a protocol for. Once it's built, I'll definitely have forum support for it, but I don't want to duplicate their efforts right out of the gate.

I think it's a solid idea though :)

A general ICO tag works but included in that will be a lot of ads and a lot of junk. I wanted to create more specificity on purpose to cultivate something from scratch. I'll tease it out and look forward to Communities!

Re: last reply vs $ voted. What if things were sorted like Reddit, based on # of upvotes? Might that have a place?

Attract friends, continue research

Already have a line on quality research writers. There's a screaming need so we'll see.

Do we really need more ICO advertising? Most of those projects are doomed to fail. And what if you ranked high the failed ICO? Would you feel like you have done your research?

ICO advertising? Did I write that? No.

To be clear, I said "ICO-Research" and unless posts actually constitute research and follow relevant criteria (like a list of questions, critical, proof they did diligence), I wouldn't be wasting my Voting juice on them. This, like everything on Steem, would require effect curation and stewardship.

I think it's a great idea, especially considering the mess that bitcointalk has become. The whole ICO thing isn't going anywhere. If anything, it's going to grow. Some mature and objective research and discussion would be very helpful.

BCT...ye gods do people actually make investment decisions based on anything written in that den of FUD?

Will give it a try @eeks, the research must be on Blockchain Tech right? or any random techy findings?

Blockchain ICOs only. I also plan to have criteria, so people can't game it by throwing together a bunch of words without doing proper diligence and adding value.

That was my concern, cos have seen loads of wacky posts in my 3months here, i made some too in my first few days though face covered🙁......but i think am evolving now.

Here's an example of what I am talking about, a good start towards how to approach and analyze any ICO.
