Single global currency? Is it possible?

in #chainbb-general7 years ago

Never before had there been such an ever-increasing trend in the international trades and transactions. In the popular perception, having a single global currency would bring palpable benefits to traders and travelers. Yet there are those who contend that a single currency would cause a staggering number of issues.

It is the future, and it is inevitable
First and foremost, globalisation is considered to be an inevitable trend. Thus, there are millions of transactions every second world-wide and every transaction involves a currency. A single global currency would facilitate seamless transactions since there is no foreign exchange rate required. It is noteworthly that the multi-national companies can save conspicuous costs in accounting services. Needless to say, travellers would be more enjoying their trips since the conversions of currencies can be averted, notably for those traveling to multiple countries frequently.

But, it is hard
From another stance, having been considered to have close relationship with the economy, a currency is representation of a country's autonomy. Before a single global currency is implemented, all of the countries' central banks should compromise; resultantly, certain countries have to sacrifice their controls over the economic policies including interest rate setting. To exemplify, a developing country which is perceived to have higher risks ought to set a higher interest rate to compensate the potential investors and maintain its competitiveness. Nevertheless, adopting the same interest policy and play havoc with that country's competitiveness and economy. Furthermore, there exist other pragmatic concerns, including which banks should have right, and to what extent, to issue bills and notes, upon implementing a single currency.

Viewed as a whole, notwithstanding the fact that a single currency can bring convenience to individuals, there are detrimental impacts to certain contries' macro economy. To my way of thinking, the economic and political concerns ought to be addressed before a single currency is implemented.

Cyptocurrency? Is it a way to go?

Based on the above political issues, it seems to be difficult to issue a single global currency by a central bank. However, Bitcoin, a decentralized currency, not supported or owned by any country, was created in 2009. It provides a solution to transfer money in safe and fast without a middleman. Meanwhile, no bank service required for long distances money transactions! In addition, the supply amount was fixed to be 210 million and no one can change. That means it can guarantee it's value by not printing money as governments do.

It gives people a light to think about how a single global currency can be. And certainly, there is still a long way to go.

Great writing and nice will on cyptocurrencies! But I would wonder that will the government ban this type of cyptocurrencies in someday? I feel uncomfortable on it as these coin enjoy a lot of freedom and Government will not happy to see it. And cyptocurrencies may also affect the profit of banks. I think they will do some actions in the future!

Value of a currency is only what we make it. Bitcoin, even with its flaws, has shown me that most money is just a construct. People in the crypto world are giving hard currency a run for its "money". The conspiracy theory nut-job in me is saying:
"crypto is the only way to get the 99% out of the babylonian money magic slave system the reptilian overloads have gotten us into. "

Nice articles, but in my opinions i can hardly think so, just like you mentioned it will be difficult as the existing worlds had a lot of means to manipulate foreign exchange as a form of political power control between nations. Those political issue will not likely resolve unless there is a greater common goods. Yet the use of single currency world wide likely only benefits individuals like us in a much microscopic view compare to national wide decisions. Lastly, different development state of different countries and different living standards will lead to different value of the currency in different part of the world and this would likely create arbitrary value of the currency! But of course as a microscopic individual i would like to see single currency being use world wide!!

yeah i recogize it is very hard to have a single global currency in this stage. the political power will undoubtedly take action if they found there are something threatening their benefit. but in the long run, i think it would be no one can stop the cyptocurrencies. meanwhile, people will find it to be a solution of global trading. Governments need to recognise the future is yet to change.

I like the idea of every person having their own crypto currency. That way you can value it based on whatever the hell you want. Pump and dump it if you want on the open exchange, sell yourself out for anything you want! Ill sell you 1 sunshinecryptocoin, the possibilities are endless...

very difficult.

Economist predicted there will be a new world currency in 2018, and many think that it is coins like Bitcoins or other altcoins!

I truly believe that cryptocurrency is the future with Bitcoin being the forerunner and brand name. One main global currency , just makes sense to me. Besides, if you check up on the Simpsons future predictions, you'll find that cryptocurrency is one of them.

Interesting read. There was one day saying that China is trying to create their own crpytocurrency and I think it may refer to what you have in mind.

But at this moment, if I have a btc, I would prefer keep it rather then spend it during trip in let say Japan. Will this kind of decision affect the short term or long term development of btc (or other cryptocurrency)🤔?
