What do you think of the fact that for most of cryptocurrencies, although they are in its essence decentralized, still the true is that small number of users hold large volumes of coins. Therefore those cryptocurrencies are also easy to manipulate by large fishes.
Reputation is very important for each cryptocurrency. When some big golder try to manipulate with price of coin, pump and dump, the reputation of the cryptocurrency is decreased. This owner gets short time profit and lost long time profit.
