Arrests For Social Media posts

Mudassir Rana found a meme shared by a friend. So he shared it on Facebook without comment. Next evening, there was a knock on the door. It's the police. Rana was arrested. This happened in India's Uttar Pradesh.
What was the meme about? It's a cartoonish illustration of the faces of politicians.
Teachers, students, businessmen, drivers, police personnel and members of paramilitary forces have been included in such arrests for their social media activities in the recent years. Some say, after PM Modi came to power in 2014, such arrests have become a new normal.
The latest victim who got arrested for Facebook activity is someone who goes by the name of Tushar Sharma. He was arrested for "derogatory remarks" on 14 August, 2018, against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
